Wrexham striker Paul Mullin failed to make an impact as his Wigan Athletic side lost against Cardiff City.

Whilst Wrexham drew with Derby County in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, their Welsh rivals Cardiff City went up against Paul Mullin‘s Wigan Athletic in League One.

Next month, Wrexham will play Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup fourth round and it’ll prove a tough game for both teams, with Cardiff City now placed 4th in League One.

On Saturday, the Bluebirds overcame a 10-man Wigan Athletic side with ease, winning the game 2-0 with on-loan Wrexham striker Mullin playing 65 minutes of the game.

Paul Mullin starts for Wigan Athletic against Cardiff City

Few Wigan players covered themselves in glory on Saturday. Sofascore only gave two players a rating of 7/10 or higher whilst Mullin scored a 6.7/10, in what was his 10th league appearances for the Latics.

But the stats suggest Mullin is getting back to his best at Wigan Athletic, where he’s now scored four goals in 13 games in all competitions this season, including three in League One.

Though his stats against Cardiff were little to write home about, as the 30-year-old was hauled off shortly after the hour mark with Wigan Athletic making the long journey down to Plymouth Argyle next weekend.

Paul Mullin’s stats vs Cardiff City are rather unimpressive

Wigan Athletic fans have given mixed reviews of Mullin so far this season. He’s had poor spells and he’s had good spells, but his performance against Cardiff City wasn’t all that impressive.

The striker failed to really get a sight on goal though that might be down to a largely poor team performance, which saw Wigan go down to 10 men in second half injury time.

It’s still early doors in the season though and given a few more weeks, and more game time, Mullin could really start to rediscover the scoring form which every Wrexham fan knows he has.

Wrexham are next in action against Leicester City in the Championship on Tuesday night.
