Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has provided a fresh injury update on Liberato Cacace ahead of Stoke City.

Wrexham made some surprising history over the summer when Liberato Cacace became the first signing made outside of the UK and Ireland in the Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac era.

The left-back started the Red Dragons’ opening game of the season, which was a 2-1 defeat to Southampton.

He added some much-needed pace and attacking threat down Wrexham’s left flank in that match and also in the 2-0 win over Millwall.

However, Cacace has been injured for some time now, missing their last five Championship matches.

But the New Zealand international now looks set to make his return very soon.

Liberato Cacace can play for Wrexham vs Stoke City

Wrexham take on Stoke City in their first Championship meeting after the October international break on Saturday.

Stoke are fighting for a play-off spot, while the Welsh outfit have dropped down to 18th and are four points adrift of the relegation zone.

Phil Parkinson has provided two very positive updates before the game, however.

Ollie Rathbone is back in the Championship squad after missing the entirety of the proper season so far with injury.

Meanwhile, Parkinson has also confirmed that Cacace is now ‘ready to go’ after his own injury battle.

He said, as per the Leader: “Libby’s been back in full training this week so he’s looking stronger each day.

“It’s been disappointing for him and for us but sometimes things happen and you’ve just got to get on with them.

“We’ve took our time and made sure he’s right.

“He did a lot of work with the medical team on the grass last week; while other people were off, he’s been in working and now he’s joined in fully and he’s ready to go.”

Who will Phil Parkinson drop for Wrexham’s fixture against Stoke City

Cacace and Rathbone are both key players, so there is a chance Parkinson puts them straight back into the eleven.

Ryan Longman has filled the void at left-wing-back for the most part in Cacace’s absence, with James McClean acting as the back-up option.

But Cacace, in his very limited outings so far, has looked dangerous down the left and could come back into the team for Longman.

As for Rathbone, it’s likely we will see George Dobson or Ben Sheaf dropped to make room for the ex-Rotherham United man.
