Wrexham are preparing for their final game of the pre-season tour down under.

Following a mixed bag in Australia, Phil Parkinson’s squad now travel to New Zealand to face Wellington Phoenix.

Ollie Rathbone has had an x-ray on an ankle injury sustained in the defeat to Sydney FC and will likely miss the game.

Wrexham will be looking for an improved performance following their sluggish display in Sydney, however, goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi has fired a warning to the Red Dragons ahead of the fixture.

Wrexham warned that Wellington Phoenix will bring their ‘A game’ to pre-season clash

Speaking to his club’s YouTube channel, Oluwayemi has explained how his Wellington Phoenix side will be looking to repeat Sydney’s win over the travelling Red Dragons.

Oluwayemi stated: “It’s a great opportunity for everybody, so everyone is going to have their A-game and everyone is going to try and give it their all.

“We’re hoping to feed off the energy in the stadium and it will be a brilliant opportunity for all of the lads.”

Jay Rodriguez is another injury concern for Parkinson, who is hoping to give some minutes to Ryan Hardie and Modou Faal in Wellington.

Phil Parkinson will be looking for better quality on the ball from Wrexham

Parkinson was annoyed with Wrexham’s performance v Sydney and with no pre-season fixtures scheduled currently before their opener at Southampton, this is a huge encounter.

It is likely that Wrexham will arrange another friendly or two before the start of the campaign but the players need to treat it with more urgency than was on display in Sydney.

Their build up was far too slow and predictable and whilst pre-season is about getting minutes in the legs, their final ball was often found wanting.

James McClean and Ryan Longman have been the stand-out performers so far and it is now time for other members of the squad to step up their preparations.
