Phil Parkinson has issued an honest verdict on whether Wrexham could sign a player from Major League Soccer during this transfer window.
Wrexham’s tour of the United States went as well as anyone could have imagined.
Phil Parkinson’s men held Premier League sides Bournemouth and Chelsea to draws before thrashing MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1, rounding off their Wrex Coast Tour in style.
Although it is only pre-season and only so much can be read into these results, Parkinson will have been pleased with how his side conducted themselves.
They were defensively resolute against top-flight opposition while throughout the three matches, they showcased how deadly they can be on the counter-attack, scoring a whopping seven goals.
It begs the question as to whether Parkinson has used their tour of the US as a chance to look at signing further players, with the Wrexham boss now offering his response.

During the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney era, Wrexham have rarely looked abroad to sign new players and have instead used the English market to sign individuals they are familiar with.
But, now they’re looking to establish themselves in the third tier, or perhaps push towards the Championship, the Welsh side could begin to use their scouting network abroad to poach talent.
Following their 4-1 win over MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps, Parkinson was asked about the possibility of scouting players from the North American league.
The Wrexham boss seemed keen about the idea and claimed he wouldn’t hesitate to sign someone if the right player became available.
Speaking to The Leader, Parkinson said: “If the right player became available, we wouldn’t hesitate because I think it would be great for the club, you know, with the profile over here.
“But, obviously, it’s got to be the player who can make a difference for us and we wouldn’t just bring someone in because of they’re from Canada or the US.
“It’s got to be the right player to fit in with the team.
“But, yeah, I think it would be great and all the players have seen, or saw, another MLS game live and there’s a lot of good, technical ability over here.
“There’s a lot of players who probably can transition into the EFL.”
The next step for Wrexham
While Parkinson is open to the prospect of signing talents from America, he will only do so if they’re the right player, meaning their profile and personality fit perfectly into the squad.
With that said, going down this avenue could be the next step in Wrexham’s development as a club. Not only would it attract further support from the US, but also show they’re capable of acquiring talent from abroad.
The Wrex Coast tour was a great opportunity for the recruitment team to look at some of the technical quality available in the MLS and draft up a potential shortlist of signings.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Reds dip into this market during the summer transfer window, or in the near future.
