Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson has opened up about his side’s injury issues and how that will affect his January business.
This weekend was a disappointing one for Wrexham there is no doubt about that. Losing in a derby is what no fan ever wants to see.
Travelling to Newport, Phil Parkinson was hopeful of another win to do the double over their Welsh rivals this season.
Before the game had even begun, the Reds had their worries as several players were ruled out through surprise injuries.
This was only made worse when Will Boyle was sent off early in the afternoon for a high follow-through on his challenge.

This made the game extremely tough for Wrexham as they struggled to make any clear-cut chances and were generally dominated.
That might have been the case but it is fair to say the red card played its part but so did the injuries coming in. Now Parkinson has opened up about that point.
Phil Parkinson on more Wrexham injury worries
The Reds have suffered their fair share of injuries so far this season which started before the campaign even began. The injury to Paul Mullin in pre-season was just a sign of things to come.
In recent weeks, Parkinson had spoken about players returning from injury being like new signings. Now he has even more players out and actual new signings may be necessary.
Speaking with Leader Live, the Reds boss has opened up about exactly that as well as the extent of their problems.
On that, he said: “We are looking anyway but we will just have to assess the injured players. We have got nine days before the next game and we just need to look at everybody and see how long the injuries are going to be.
“Fletch will have a scan on Monday. Fordey is also going to see a specialist about his problem and we know where we stand with Tom. You are looking at a few weeks with Tom rather than months, so that’s three. Andy had a slight concussion and hopefully, we will see a slight improvement in him this week.”
Given that Steven Fletcher had only recently returned to great success, it is frustrating to see him out again. Anthony Forde is another who has recently returned and had made multiple appearances in quick succession. Another annoyance is that Tom O’Connor, who has been in superb form, is also now out.
There is strength in depth in this Wrexham side but with so many injuries it is certainly tough. These additional problems won’t help.
Continuing on, Parkinson added: “Of course it’s disruption but we have got good players to come in and I felt if we’d kept 11 on the pitch against Newport, we would have had a great chance of winning the game.
“It wasn’t to be but sometimes things go against you so much that the mountain is too big to climb and it was today with those circumstances”
It is going to be a tough few weeks for Wrexham and maybe the January window can provide some much-needed restbite.
