Welcome to Wrexham season 2 is here and boss Phil Parkinson thinks the ‘amazing’ story will have a profound effect on the club’s exposure.

A few years ago, people around the world would have known very little about Wrexham football club. However, thanks to the takeover of Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the North Wales club has become just as famous as many Premier League and Champions League teams.

Welcome to Wrexham returns for second season

A lot of that is down to the Disney+ documentary, Welcome to Wrexham. The first season of the docuseries, which aired a year ago, provided an intimate look into life at the club post the Reynolds and McElhenney takeover.

The candidness and genuine warmth at the heart of the series made it an immediate fan favourite. According to reports the first season made Rob and Ryan $9.5 million, while boosting the commercial standing of the club immeasurably.

Now, the series is back and better than ever for season 2, and follows the club as it clinched promotion from the National League last season.

Phil Parkinson predicts what ‘amazing’ second season of Welcome to Wrexham will do for the club

While manager Phil Parkinson has enough on his plate with on-field matters, it’s hard to ignore the impact that Welcome to Wrexham has, and will have, on the club.

Speaking ahead of the release of the second series, Parkinson has said the ‘amazing’ series will bring even more world-wide exposure for the club.

“When I first came here, we spoke about the documentary but the reality only came to fruition when it actually aired for the first time,” said the boss.

“Since then the popularity of it has taken the club onto a different level, certainly overseas. I think we should all be looking forward to this series because of the happy ending. It is going to be exciting, it is what the club is all about; it is part of the club telling the story so let’s see if this series is as popular as the last one,” he added.

“The success on the pitch but also the exposure world-wide is an amazing story. Like I said at the end of last season, hopefully there are some really exciting chapters to be written yet. There is a feel-good factor in the town and world-wide because of the documentary,” he added.
