Phil Parkinson shares prediction on Wrexham summer signing, he needs a big week of training

Wrexham fell to defeat against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon, suffering a frustrating loss at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham’s return to the second tier hasn’t quite gone to plan just yet.

Phil Parkinson watched on as Wrexham lost 2-1 at Southampton on the opening day, conceding twice late on in a heartbreaking defeat.

Wrexham were then beaten by West Bromwich Albion over the weekend, losing 3-2 at home to the Baggies.

Ryan Reynolds was in town to watch Wrexham alongside Rob McElhenney, but the Hollywood duo didn’t taste victory in the first home game of the league campaign.

Phil Parkinson on Wrexham striker Kieffer Moore

Wrexham fans should not be too concerned just yet, as Southampton and West Brom provided two very tough games for the opening pair of Championship fixtures.

Parkinson will now look ahead to facing Sheffield Wednesday this coming weekend, as the Owls head to the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham will certainly go into that game as favourites, given Wednesday’s off-field problems, and Parkinson is hoping to have Kieffer Moore raring to go.

Moore picked up an injury against Southampton, and few expected him to be fit to face West Brom on Saturday.

The giant forward was named in the starting XI, though, managing to play through any pain for the Wrexham cause.

Parkinson has now told BBC Sport that he felt Moore ‘did well’ against West Brom, and came through the game unscathed despite the injury concerns.

Parkinson now believes that Moore needs a big week of training in order to catch up with some of his Wrexham teammates, but predicts that he will be a ‘big player’ for Wrexham.

“Kieffer did well. I was thinking 70 minutes would be enough for him after the week he’s had, but he got through the game fine,” said Parkinson.

“He’s going to be a big player for us, and we need to get him some training this week.

“When you’ve come in late to the club and you’ve had a week without being on the training ground, we need now to get him back in on Monday morning,” he added.

Kieffer Moore could partner Nathan Broadhead against Sheffield Wednesday

Parkinson will look to bring Moore up to speed this week and start him once again next weekend, when Wednesday visit the STōK Cae Ras.

Moore has partnered Josh Windass from the start in his two Wrexham appearances, but that run may come to an end against Wednesday.

Windass picked up an injury of his own on Saturday, and unless he makes a miraculous recovery – not too dissimilar to that of Moore himself – he won’t be involved against the Owls.

That could pave the way for Moore to partner Nathan Broadhead in attack, after the new Wrexham signing replaced Windass from the bench against West Brom.

Moore and Broadhead played together at Ipswich, and also know each other from the Welsh international setup.

The duo could play up front together from the start against Wednesday, though Parkinson will be looking for a big week of training from both summer signings ahead of the Owls’ visit.
