Wrexham are into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after beating League One side Reading 2-0 at the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday night.

Wrexham followed up Saturday’s 3-2 win at Norwich City with another victory, this time in the Carabao Cup.

Phil Parkinson rang the changes as Reading arrived at the STōK Cae Ras, with Callum Doyle the only starter at Norwich to keep his place against the Royals.

Wrexham were a little flat in the first half, but Nathan Broadhead’s superb curling finish sparked Parkinson’s side into life.

Broadhead added Wrexham’s second with a header, and the 2-0 lead over Reading could have been more after a fine second-half display.

Phil Parkinson on the one piece of ‘magic’ Wrexham haven’t experienced under Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds

Wrexham have now won two games in a row, and for all of the scrutiny after losing to Queens Park Rangers, it’s now four wins in five games across all competitions.

Any questions over Parkinson’s future should be shrugged off, with Wrexham starting to show some real signs of progress.

Wrexham are now in the hat for the fourth round and have reached this stage of the competition for the first time in 48 years.

Some of the Premier League heavy-hitters are in the hat, with Liverpool and Chelsea both advancing on Tuesday night.

Arsenal and Manchester City will be expected to join them, though Manchester United have already been dumped out by Grimsby Town.

Speaking on Wrexham Match Day Live after beating Reading, Parkinson admitted that a big cup tie is the ‘one bit of magic’ the club hasn’t experienced since Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds’ takeover.

Cup finals at Wembley, three straight promotions, transfer records being broken, Wrexham fans have seen it all in recent years – but not a big cup tie.

Parkinson feels that Wrexham are now due to play a really top team in the Carabao Cup, believing the next round could finally provide that tie.

“I just think, in the last four years, since Rob and Ryan have owned the club, the one bit of magic dust which hasn’t been sprinkled is a big cup tie against a top team,” said Parkinson.

“The law of averages tells me we must be due one this time,” he added.

Premier League clubs will hope to avoid a trip to the STōK Cae Ras

Wrexham fans may be dreaming of a Premier League away day, especially if it’s Liverpool or Chelsea.

Those Premier League clubs have enormous squads to cope with almost any cup scenario, but they will surely hope to avoid a trip to Wrexham.

The STōK Cae Ras has been a fortress during Parkinson’s reign, and Wrexham supporters can create quite the atmosphere.

A trip to face this Wrexham side could be a real problem for Premier League clubs, and none of the so-called ‘big boys’ will want to become the first top-flight side to be taken down by Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham.

All will be revealed on Wednesday night, with Wrexham hoping to land a plum tie after seeing off League One opposition.
