Paul Mullin is set to fly home from the US, following the punctured lung he got in the pre-season fixture against Manchester United.

The Red Dragons emerged 3-1 victors against the Red Devils, but the victory had bittersweet connotations as their star man Paul Mullin suffered a horrific injury.

The English forward was wiped out by Manchester United’s Nathan Bishop, which resulted in a punctured lung for the striker.

The injury meant that Wrexham’s top scorer last season would miss their opening few fixtures, but a positive update has surfaced with him flying home from the US.

Paul Mullin set to fly home from the US

As reported by The Athletic – Mullin left California on Tuesday night. His flight meant missing the end of Wrexham’s game against Wigan Athletic.

The prolific forward landed on excellent news, realising that the Red Dragons had in fact defeated the League 1 opposition on penalties.

He responded comically to Sky Sport’s coverage from boss, Phil Parkinson – who stated that he wasn’t answering his calls!

Mullin is expected to still be out for a little while, but it’s mightily positive news that he’s returning to the UK.

Where was Mullin staying whilst in the US?

Remarkably, Mullin was sharing a room with none other than Rob McElhenney!

In an interview with S4C, McElhenney said the following about Mullin: “He’s okay. I just texted with him this morning. He’s in San Diego and he’s going to come up and stay with us for a couple of weeks until he can leave and head back to Wales.”

A lovely gesture from the owner. Not many would go the extra mile like McElhenney would!
