Wrexham have been on an incredible journey under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds but the club has now secured additional investment.

Wrexham sit third in League One with Hollywood owners running the show at the STōK Cae Ras; nobody could have predicted that just a few years ago.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have transformed Wrexham and turned the club into headline news across the world.

Wrexham want to keep progressing though; Reynolds wants another Wrexham promotion this season after all.

Wrexham are even in talks to join the Welsh League Cup, potentially opening up a route into European football.

Progression off the pitch is vital too and Wrexham have now appointed a major architectural firm to explore stadium improvements.

Wrexham land new investment from Allyn family

Wrexham have now struck a deal to bring new investment into the club.

Wrexham confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the Allyn family have become ‘new minority investors’ in the club.

The Allyn family owned Welch Allyn, a New York-based medical device company, for over 100 years before selling up in 2015.

Wrexham’s press release notes that The Allyn Family Foundation is attempting to transform Syracuse, New York.

Now moving into football, the Allyn family have invested in Wrehxam through Red Dragon Ventures LLC, teaming up with Reynolds and McElhenney.

Eric Allyn from the Allyn family has been quoted on Wrexham’s official website as saying that the work McElhenney and Reynolds have done around Wrexham reminds him of his own work in Syracuse, highlighting their desire to ‘uplift communities’.

“For more than a century, our family has focused on building great companies, while also uplifting wonderful communities,” said Allyn.

“Our decades-long efforts in the Syracuse region are similar to what Rob and Ryan have started in Wrexham. We view Red Dragon Ventures as a vehicle to invest in a world-class football club, and, importantly, in the welcoming community of Wrexham,” he added.

We wouldn’t anticipate Wrexham throwing money at Lionel Messi come January but extra investment is always welcome.

McElhenney and Reynolds paid just £2million for Wrexham and have invested brilliantly on and off the pitch, but they can’t spend infinitely.

Extra investment was always going to be needed in order to maximise the potential of this Wrexham project.

McElhenney and Reynolds have now commented on the deal, suggesting that the Allyn family will be ‘world class partners’ after finalising their investment.

In a joint statement on Wrexham’s official website, McElhenney and Reynolds noted that they have been ‘blown away’ by the Allyn family because of their intelligence, kindness and commitment.

“Wrexham has earned the world’s attention and we are focused on bringing on board world-class partners to help with the next phase of our growth. We have been fortunate to get to know the Allyn family and we are blown away by their intelligence, kindness and commitment. They are exactly the type of partners we will need for this amazing endeavor,” they added.

This deal will hopefully allow Wrexham to keep progressing in the near future and bring valuable funds into the club – especially ahead of the January transfer window.
