Wrexham have taken the world by storm ever since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds completed their takeover of the club.

Wrexham becoming global news probably wasn’t even fathomable to most supporters even five years ago.

Stuck in the National League for more than a decade, Wrexham may have flirted with promotion at times but the club didn’t really seem to be going anywhere.

In came Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, almost immediately turning Wrexham into the so-called ‘Hollywood club’.

The pair have not only backed the club handsomely but really involved themselves in the community around Wrexham.

Back-to-back promotions suggest that McElhenney and Reynolds are doing something right at Wrexham – and there is no ceiling on how far Wrexham could go.

Rob McElhenney on Welcome to Wrexham

Part of the Wrexham rise has been the hit documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Fans have been given an inside look into the Wrexham project and the series has certainly tempted more and more fans from abroad to take an interest in the club.

We now see supporters flocking to Wrexham to simply experience the club; imagine saying that just a few years ago.

The latest series of the show has been another big hit and will culminate in another promotion success for Wrexham.

Some fans will already be looking forward to Season 4 of the show – and possibly many more seasons to come.

McElhenney has now been asked by The Wrap just how long he plans to keep ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ going as the club continues to move forward.

McElhenney admitted that he wants to keep the series going ‘for as long as we possibly’ can.

Some people believe that McElhenney will run out of stories to tell, but he completely disagrees, highlighting that Wrexham will always have a tale to tell.

“Our goal, ultimately, is to document the rise of the club and the town for as long as we possibly can because it is just a wellspring of story,” said McElhenney. “When I hear people say, ‘Well, eventually you’re going to run out of stories,’ I’m like, ‘Really? Because we haven’t for thousands of years.’”

How much do Disney make from ‘Welcome to Wrexham’?

Disney hold the rights to showing ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ and they have been raking in the cash.

Reports earlier this year suggested that Disney are making more than £400,000 per episode of the show, which has been an incredible success.

When the show is making that kind of money, you can be sure that Disney will be right there with McElhenney, wanting it to last as long as possible.

As highlighted by the Rob Ryan Red Podcast, Shaun Harvey has now confirmed that Wrexham do not actually bring in any direct financial gain from the show.

Wrexham’s gain is through exposure and sponsorship deals, which seems to be working out pretty well – and McElhenney doesn’t want it to end any time soon.
