Wrexham co-owner, Rob McElhenney has hinted at a potential new name for the temporary Kop stand at The Racecourse.

In recent weeks, Wrexham have opened a new temporary stand at The Racecourse which has allowed attendances to grow.

There had been issues with the local council regarding the building of the new Kop Stand. As a result there had been no stand there for many months.

Many iconic moments such as the ‘Hand of Foz‘ happened with the backdrop of a building site. This issue has been rectified in recent weeks by the club.

With this additional support, Phil Parkinson’s side have continued their great form that has followed them all season. This now sees the Reds occupy second place in League Two with back-to-back promotion a true possibility.

With all that being said, now Rob McElhenney has hinted at some news regarding the temporary stand which has boosted the home atmosphere.

Rob McElhenney on temporary stand name

Since he and Ryan Reynolds came into the club, the pair have been very astute when it comes to sponsorship deals. From shirt sponsors to stadium name rights, they have made good money through sponsorship.

With that being said, it may have come as a surprise that the temporary Kop Stand hadn’t been given a sponsor.

The additional stand has made an impact at The Racecourse by the way of attendance. On their official Twitter page, Wrexham confirmed the attendance. They said: “12,478. Our highest home league attendance since March 1980.”

It is great to see the impact of this new stand on the atmosphere for home games. It just goes to show the interest in Wrexham right now.

Following this announcement from the club, McElhenney replied saying: “If you build it they will come. *Even if they don’t watch baseball and/or get the reference.”

It is a reference to Field of Dreams if anyone is interested. That isn’t the story here, it is definitely what he said next.

In a reply to this, a fan simply asked: “Are you going to get a temporary sponsor or maybe just name it?”

There doesn’t appear to be a question in McElhenney’s mind who said: “Yes ;)”

As a result of this, fans can look forward to an announcement in the coming weeks of a new name for a temporary stand. Although it won’t necessarily make a difference and have an impact, it will create additional revenue.

The new stand build date looks like there is no start date right now. This stand has to be home for now. With that being said a new name and sponsor can help bridge the gap for the here and now.
