Wrexham have confirmed through an official statement that the temporary Kop Stand will be opened for the Newport County game, this weekend.
It has been a great year for Wrexham, starting in the National League and finishing at the top end of League Two.
With Phil Parkinson in charge of the Reds, they have gone from strength to strength and have been hugely positive on the pitch.
This has been matched by the off-the-pitch activity by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since their purchase.
From helping local businesses through advertising to bringing new eyes to the club through celebrities, they have done so much.
One of the big ambitions of the Hollywood duo has been to improve The Racecourse and in particular, the Kop Stand. This has recently seen a temporary stand be announced by the club which has moved quickly.
Today the club have announced that the stand has been approved. This means it will be allowed to be used in the upcoming fixture. In the statement on Twitter, the club said: “Wrexham AFC are pleased to confirm we have received council approval for the temporary stand on The Kop, which will be open at 80% capacity for Saturday’s game against Newport County.”
The stand will be a reported 2,289 in capacity, and the capped attendance at the Newport game will be 1,831. Although this may not be ideal or what fans wanted, to just have a stand open is great to see. This has seen fans react in jubilant fashion.
How have fans reacted to the Kop stand announcement?
Ever since the Kop was demolished last season, fans have been begging for something to stand in its place. This is especially true given that behind the goal at the Kop end was essentially a building site. Moments like Ben Foster’s penalty save happened against an empty stand which is far from ideal.

With the temporary stand, fans have shown their delight following the release of the statement today.
Bryn Law has shown his support for the temporary stand as he has labelled it as ‘incredible’. The prospect of having fans back in the Kop Stand clearly means a lot to the fans and Law included in that.
This fan has shown his support for the local council. They, in the end, have made this possible for the club. It has to be said that it didn’t look like the Newport game was a possible opening date. It has been made possible. ‘Mind-blowing stuff’ almost sums up the impact that Reynolds and McElhenney have had in recent years.
A truly positive day for the club which just adds to the excellent work that has been done by the hierarchy. Now more fans can pack into The Racecourse ahead of the derby vs Newport County this weekend.
