Wrexham co-owner, Rob McElhenney has offered a hilarious sick note to a fan on social media ahead of the Blackburn Rovers FA Cup clash.

This week sees Wrexham travel to Ewood Park to face Championship side, Blackburn Rovers in a fourth-round FA Cup clash.

Last season, Phil Parkinson’s side did very well in the competition and created some memorable moments not to be forgotten. From the great win away at Coventry City to the controversy around the Sheffield United defeat.

After a win against Shrewsbury in the last round, the Reds will be hopeful of yet another win as Newcastle United await.

This week has seen Rob McElhenney respond to a fan who was looking to get time off work to watch the highly anticipated clash.

Fan asks for time off work for Wrexham

It is clear that FA Cup fever has even taken over across the pond in Canada as a fan has asked for time off work for the clash.

With the time difference between the UK and Ottowa, Canada the game will kick off at 2:30 pm as opposed to 7:30 pm here. As a result of this, anyone wishing to watch the game live will have to take time off work.

With that being the case, a fan has taken to social media to ask for a sick note from the Wrexham owners themselves. This worked a treat.

Canadian Red Dragons asked: “Hey, Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, Wrexham can you provide me with a sick note for work so I can watch the match on Monday?”

This was very optimistic but knowing the pride that Reynolds and McElhenney take in Wrexham on social media, a response wasn’t out of the question.

Rob McElhenney gives out sick note

There is no doubt of the gravity of the game against Blackburn, a Championship side. With this being in the FA Cup it only makes it more exciting.

As a result, there will be plenty of fans taking days off work and school in order to get to Ewood Park and cheer on the Reds.

Although fans from abroad won’t be able to get to the stadium to watch live, there will be plenty of TV interest from fans. With the time difference, it is clear that time off work is on the minds of lots of fans all over the world.

This saw Mcelhenney offer a sicknote to this fan who asked on social media this week in trademark fashion.

On that, he said: “To whom it may concern, @WrexhamCanada is hereby excused from work on Monday, January 29, 2024. They have a weird cough or something. If that’s not enough of an excuse, let’s go with the flu. Wouldn’t you hate to catch it if they showed up to work in that condition?

“They are cleared to come back on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Oh, I think that happens to be the day after the Wrexham match. Weird timing. Best wishes, Dr. McElhenney (Don’t Google my credentials, just trust me. I’m a real doctor).”

This a typically hilarious response from the Reds co-owner who is just making himself more likeable by the week on social media. His interactions with Wrexham and their fans are great to see and well-loved by supporters.

This fan, amongst every other, will be hoping that the Reds can secure a famous win and make their day off work worthwhile.
