Wrexham co-owner, Rob McElhenney has been caught watching the Eagles during the Emmys as he picked up an award for ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Last season was one for Wrexham fans to remember forever as they finally achieved promotion from the National League.

This was immortalised in the documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ which was loved by a wide-ranging audience.

A behind-the-scenes look into plenty of different aspects of the club from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to the women’s team.

With a third series in the pipeline, there is plenty to look forward to in the coming series, such has been the positivity this season.

Under Phil Parkinson, the Reds are in yet another promotion race which is bound to make for another interesting season.

In the past week, Wrexham have seen plenty of awards come their way following the ceremony of the Emmys. McElhenney clearly had a bone to pick with the schedulers of the show…

McElhenney misses Eagles for Wrexham Emmy

Although the Always Sunny actor has taken the Reds to his heart, his first love as a sports fan was the Philadelphia Eagles.

They featured in an episode of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ as McElhenney watched the Sheffield United clash outside their stadium.

As a result, when planning to attend the Emmys for the various awards that Wrexham had been nominated for, he would have been disappointed to see the Eagles playing on the same night.

This saw him take to Twitter to voice his discontent as his wife took a picture of him watching the game on his phone in the crowd.

On that, he said: “Who schedules the Emmys the same night as the @eagles #gobirds #FlyEaglesFly”

It is clear that the game meant a lot to McElhenney to the point he would watch the game at a prestigious awards ceremony.

On the day, he was waiting for the Reds to be called for their nominations. These included: “Outstanding Picture Editing For An Unstructured Reality Program, Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program, Outstanding Directing For A Reality Program; Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Reality Program (Single or Multi-Camera), Outstanding Cinematography For A Reality Program.”

There was plenty to wait for. Given that the Eagles suffered a 32-9 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he needed something to be happy about.

He got this as the Reds were awarded with five Emmys on the night which certainly lifted McElhenney’s spirits.

He once again took to Twitter to say: “Worth it I guess. Up the town. #gobirds#FlyEaglesFly”

It is great to see Wrexham being recognised on a global scale which is something fans could have only dreamed of a few years ago. It’s a shame that the Eagles didn’t win, hopefully, all those awards make up for it…
