Wrexham’s Women unfortunately tasted defeat against Swansea City on Sunday afternoon but the game provided a great moment for co-owner Ryan Reynolds.
Reynolds has made his interest in growing Wrexham Women clear.
This venture between Reynolds and Rob McElhenney isn’t just about them men’s team and we have seen the women featured prominently on ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
For instance, the logo of Betty Buzz, the drinks brand of Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively, features on the training kit and on the sleeves of the matchday kit for the Wrexham Women.
We have seen Wrexham announce a US tour for the women’s team and Reynolds was buzzing with excitement ahead of Sunday’s game with Swansea City.
This was another special game as the Wrexham Women played at the STōK Cae Ras, a much bigger venue than their usual home of The Rock in Rhosymedre.
Putting on these games really gets eyes on the Wrexham Women and helps grow the team with the passion from Reynolds great to see.
Ryan Reynolds reacts to Lili Jones goal for Wrexham
It just wasn’t to be for Wrexham’s women as they fell to a 3-2 defeat against Swansea.
In front of a crowd of around 2000, Wrexham did take the lead thanks to a stunning goal by Lili Jones.
Jones spotted Swansea goalkeeper Chelsea Herbert off her line and executed a perfect chip to open the scoring.
The teenager is a lifelong Wrexham fan and scoring such an incredible goal at the STōK Cae Ras will have been one of the finest moments of her career.
It turns out the goal was also a special moment for Reynolds, who has taken to Twitter to share his delight.
Reynolds posted that Jones’ goal was one of his favourite goals he has ever seen at the STōK Cae Ras, which is high praise after some of the goals we have seen in recent times.
Reynolds is clearly so passionate about the women’s team and that public appreciation for Jones won’t go unnoticed in the Wrexham fanbase.
With Rosie Hughes shining and Jones emerging as a real talent for the future, it’s no surprise that excitement about Wrexham Women is building and building.
