Wrexham co-owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have paid tribute to Roger Lloyd, a steward of 48 years at The Racecourse who sadly passed away this week.
Roger Lloyd has been an ever-present face at Wrexham for 48 years. Starting his stewardship of the club in 1975, he has seen his fair share of ups and downs.
From the 2-1 FA Cup win over Arsenal to more recent memories of National League promotions, there are some great memories.

In a post to Twitter, Lloyd’s son-in-law posted saying: “It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I have to announce the very sad passing of my father-in-law, Roger Lloyd. The last game he stewarded was Wrexham vs Newport on the 23rd December. He fell ill on Christmas Eve and passed away peacefully in hospital with his wife and daughters by his side.
“He has been the longest-serving steward at the Racecourse for 48 loyal years. To celebrate the wonderful gentleman that he was, it would be very fitting if there could be a round of applause in the 48th minute of the Wrexham vs Barrow game.”
It is safe to say that Lloyd is someone who will have touched many people’s lives in his time at The Racecourse. This has seen an outpouring of emotion and condolences to his family following the sad announcement.
How Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney reacted to Roger Lloyd’s death
It is a sad time for everyone associated with Wrexham. A stalwart of the club who will be missed by so many at The Racecourse. Since becoming owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have fallen in love with the club. This will hurt for them to hear.
In a post to his Twitter, McElhenney said: “So sorry to hear this news. Sending love to your whole family. Happy to spread the word of this tribute and will reach out about anything we can do to show our gratitude to this wonderful man.”
To have a moment of applause and reflection is all that Lloyd deserves for his service to the club over 48 years in the role. Starting in 1975, he has been a part of Wrexham through the highs and lows. With all the comings and goings, he has remained a constant. Reynolds also reacted by saying: “48 years!”
It is a tough loss for the club and will undoubtedly affect so many people. Given his stint with the club, he will have played a huge role in many fans’ matchday experience.
With Barrow being welcomed to The Racecourse on New Year’s Day, a minute’s applause is the least Lloyd deserves. A great servant to the club and a long-standing figure who will be missed.
