Wrexham will need to spend big if they are to solve a big problem in Phil Parkinson’s squad.
Wrexham are currently battling it out at the top end of League One with promotion still firmly on the cards.
A place in the play-offs is all but guaranteed at this stage of the season but automatic promotion is the goal.
Wrexham beat Mansfield Town 2-1 on Sunday while Wycombe Wanderers were held to a 0-0 draw.
This saw the Red Dragons climb to within three points of second place with 14 games of the season to go.
There’s a real chance the Welsh outfit could end this week level on points with Wycombe as well given they play Birmingham City.
But should they end up getting promoted, there are a number of issues Wrexham will have to address in their inflated squad.

The plethora of strikers currently at the Racecourse Ground will be a problem for the Red Dragons in the summer.
Seven, plus Elliot Lee, is simply too many, and if they want to add another one or two in the summer, at least a couple of their current options will need to go.
Speaking of Lee, Wrexham don’t currently have another player like him in their midfield. He’s incredibly creative but when he’s not available or not at his best, it’s clear that the Red Dragons’ ability to make chances drops.
Now, EFL pundit Liam Grice has urged Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to spend ‘a lot of money’ to add more cover for Lee if they get promoted.
He told Football League World: “I know we have Elliot Lee, but for me the lack of a real quality attacking creative midfield is very evident even when we do dominate a game. Because we can spend all the money we like on strikers, but if they don’t have anybody to feed them the ball, then nothing’s going to go in.
“I think a lot of money would have to be spent in that position and overall, the depth of the squad needs adding to, and we need to bring the age of the squad down as well. We have the second-highest average age squad in League One, which is not a very good stat to have.
“So, money will definitely have to be spent if we go up and secure our third straight promotion.”
Wrexham must improve two more positions
Away from another number 10, it’s clear their forward line is still in need of an upgrade, especially if they get promoted.
Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, and Modou Faal are already struggling in League One so have no real chance of performing in the Championship.
Another left-wing-back should also be looked at given James McClean’s advanced age and the lack of natural, quality cover behind him.
A new goalkeeper will probably be needed as well as Mark Howard is 38 and in the final few months of his contract.
