It’s been a tough 2024/25 season for one of Wrexham’s all-time greatest players.
Paul Mullin has scored 110 goals since joining the Red Dragons from Cambridge United in 2011.
His goals are one of the main reasons Wrexham ended their long stint in the National League and are now playing in League One.
However, there’s been a real drop in output from the 30-year-old this term compared to previous seasons.
| Season | Paul Mullin league goals |
| 2021/22 | 26 |
| 2022/23 | 38 |
| 2023/24 | 26 |
| 2024/25 | 3 |
Granted, 2024/25 is still not over but there’s slim to no chance of Mullin being able to even hit double figures in League One this term, especially after his recent snub.

Sky Sport pundit thinks Paul Mullin is finished at Wrexham
Parkinson isn’t selecting Mullin in league ties anymore despite the forward recovering from injury.
He was once the club’s most important assets but is behind all of Sam Smith, Jay Rodriguez, Jack Marriott, Steven Flethcer and perhaps even Elliot Lee in the striker pecking order.
Mullin’s decline is heartbreaking for fans, who have grown very fond of the number nine after watching him so closely in the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ series.
But now, speaking on the Not The Top 20 podcast, Sky Sports pundit Geroge Elek stated his belief that Wrexham are leaving Mullin behind.
He said: “When you look at their attacking talent, Steven Fletcher has done okay in moments, Marriott is okay when he’s fit, which isn’t that often.
“It feels like the Paul Mullin, Wrexham story [is coming to an end]. Maybe they have outgrown him now.
“He’s been unable to really force his way into the side (and) when he has, he hasn’t really looked the player that he was for them, and he kind of shoots from anywhere and then Ollie Palmer, again, is someone who I think they’re kind of leaving behind.”
Pundit praised Wrexham striker Sam Smith
Part of the reason Mullin is struggling for minutes of late, as already mentioned, is the arrival of Smith.
The centre-forward has 12 League One goals to his name already this term, scoring his first for Wrexham last weekend.
On Smith, Elek said: “It feels like Smith is a pretty smart signing for me, for Wrexham.
“It feels like Smith is that signing of someone to get them to where they want to go, obviously (their) next step is (to become) a mid-table Championship side.
“He’s a cut above what they already have and that was shown with the first goal. I think he’s a Championship striker, despite him being terrible when he played for us.”
