Wrexham suffered back-to-back defeats at the start of their Championship campaign after a 3-2 defeat to West Brom.

Wrexham fans were devastated over the injury to Josh Windass as the forward appeared to pull his hamstring just after Isaac Price opened the scoring.

Lewis O’Brien got Wrexham back on level terms just before half time, however, West Brom scored two goals in quick succession to take the game away from the hosts.

Sam Smith did snatch a late consolation to open his account for the season but it was not enough. Despite the loss, Ryan Reynolds has hailed one Wrexham star as a ‘machine’.

Ryan Reynolds claims new Wrexham signing Nathan Broadhead is a ‘machine’

Speaking to ITV Sport before the match, Wrexham owner Reynolds has claimed that new signing Nathan Broadhead is a ‘machine’.

Whilst recalling an ‘awkward’ recent encounter with Broadhead where Reynolds didn’t recognise his new forward because he looked ‘so young’, the Canadian was full of praise for the £10m man.

Reynolds stated: “Obviously those things are in the works a little longer than the public view might have but I had an incredibly awkward moment with him in the dressing room because in person he just looks so young.

“I’ve seen him play loads and I didn’t commit I was like ‘oh hey hi’ and then I was like that can’t be Nathan Broadhead it can’t be he’s too young, but he’s 27 and he’s a machine.”

Broadhead made his debut for the Red Dragons replacing the injured Windass and showed glimpses of his quality despite the disappointing defeat.

Wrexham fans got their first look at their new signing after his £10m move from divisional rivals Ipswich Town.

The Wales international had a great chance to score just after half time when O’Brien’s wonderful flick found his teammate unmarked in the penalty area but Broadhead steered his shot just wide of the post.

Having only trained once with his new teammates, Broadhead can be pleased with his first contribution to the team.

He will only get better as he gets used to Phil Parkinson’s style of play and builds relationships with his new teammates.

Parkinson praised Broadhead’s Championship pedigree and may now have to rely on his new signing to be the creative force for a while after the injury to Windass.
