Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have watched Wrexham enjoy a prolific start to the 2024/25 League One campaign.

The Hollywood duo have taken Wrexham from the National League to League One in just a few seasons.

Phil Parkinson has led the charge from the Racecourse Ground dugout and is now eyeing a third-straight promotion.

The Red Dragon have had an excellent start to the 2024/25 campaign despite some speculation they may struggle to dominate the third division like they did League Two and the National League.

Wrexham beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 on the opening weekend of the campaign and remain unbeaten after five fixtures.

The Welsh side’s last league outing saw them earn a 2-0 win over Peterborough United on home soil.

That win moved Wrexham up to first place in League One for the first time in 2024/25.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney given Wrexham League One prediction

Wrexham are not back in action until Monday the 16th of September when they take on Birmingham City, meaning they will likely drop off top spot over the weekend.

Birmingham are one of the favourites to win promotion to the Championship in the current campaign, especially after breaking the League One transfer record to sign Jay Stansfield from Fulham last month.

At present, the Sky Blues sit fourth in the table and three points adrift of Wrexham, meaning Monday’s clash could have major implications for the promotion race this season.

However, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds should not worry too much about the result now a supercomputer, as per the Mirror, has predicted where Wrexham will finish the 2024/25 season and it is good news.

The Welsh outfit are projected to finish the season with 94 points, handing them the league title ahead of second-place Huddersfield Town who are predicted to earn 91 points.

As for Birmingham, they are expected to end 2024/25 with 87 points and a third-place finish.

Why Wrexham promotion charge is not surprising

As already mentioned, after making the step up to League One, Wrexham were expected to struggle somewhat compared to previous campaigns.

The third tier of English football is much tougher than League Two, with the quality of player much higher and the money involved a lot greater thanks to teams like Birmingham dropping down from the Championship.

But Wrexham’s long-term plan has allowed Parkinson’s side to more than hold their own in League One.

Their American owners have been very smart in how they have recruited over the last few years.

Wrexham have signed top players like Ollie Palmer and James McClean who already have experience playing in League One or higher.

In turn, when they finally reached this level, their squad was already largely ready to compete with the best teams in the division.

It is still very early in the campaign, but it would not be surprising to see Wrexham firmly in the promotion picture come May.
