Wrexham kicked off their stint in League One with a 3-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers.
Phil Parkinson will have been pleased with how his Wrexham side began their opening fixture of the 2024/25 League One season.
The Red Dragons went undefeated in pre-season, despite facing some tough opposition, with Wrexham earning a 2-2 draw versus Chelsea.
Such positive results were expected to boost the Welsh outfit as they played out their first-ever game in the third tier of English football.
And the early stages of Saturday’s game saw Wrexham bring their summer form into the proper season.
The Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds-owned club took the lead after nine minutes when Max Cleworth flicked an Elliot Lee corner past the Wycombe keeper.
The home side continued to dominate at the Racecourse Ground, adding a second well-worked effort in the 30th minute.
Lee found Ollie Palmer who set up Jack Marriott to hit a sweet volley past Nathan Bishop.
Wycombe began to find their feet in the match after going 2-0 down and pulled a goal back in the 57th minute via Richard Kone.
Steven Fletcher then came off the bench and made it 3-1 before Sam Vokes added a second goal for Wycombe in the 89th minute.
In the end, Wrexham beat Wycombe 3-2, holding out for their first three points in League One.

Wrexham will be ‘disappointed’ after Wycombe game
Wrexham’s owners and fans should be happy to pick up a win on their debut in League One.
But one area of their game has been criticised following the match.
Wycombe only had two shots across the 90 minutes but were still able to score twice.
Now, speaking on Sky Sports during the post-match coverage of the game, pundit Clinton Morrison has suggested Wrexham will be ‘disappointed’ with their defending.
He said: “I wouldn’t say they were convincing, but the first game of the season is always difficult.
“Just get the win in front of the home fans. They will be disappointed there with the defending.”

Wrexham must address key issue after Wycombe
While Wrexham were not great defensively on Saturday, especially down their right side, issues in another area of the squad were also highlighted.
With Paul Mullin out injured, Parkinson opted to start Palmer and Marriott as his centre-forwards.
The latter assisted Marriott for his wonder goal but the pair’s displays across 90 minutes show Wrexham still need to sign another quality striker.
Barring his goal, Marriott was missing for most of the game while Palmer offered limited goal threat.
The creativity of Lee played a key role in Wrexham scoring three on Saturday but it remains clear Parkinson should look to add another centre-forward to his ranks this summer.
