Ryan Reynolds trolled by Peterborough United ace as Wrexham Wembley dream crushed in heartbreaking fashion

Wrexham were in EFL Trophy action against Peterborough United on Wednesday and things did not go to plan.

The Red Dragons have beaten The Posh in both of their League One fixtures already this season, suggesting they were clear favourites for this week’s meeting.

Phil Parkinson, as he always does in the EFL Trophy, made a number of changes to his starting lineup.

However, it did not seem to matter as goals from Modou Faal and George Dobson in the 34th and 38th minute put the home side 2-0 up going into the break.

But their game management was poor and in the end, Wrexham lost to Peterborough United via penalties after Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee missed their spot-kicks.

Darren Ferguson’s side will now face Birmingham City at Wembley while the Welsh outfit must turn their attention back to League One.

Ryan Reynolds mocked by Peterborough United player after Wrexham defeat

Wrexham have already been to Wembley once since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took over the club.

They made it to the FA Trophy final in 2022 but ended up losing out to Bromley by one goal to nil.

Should they secure promotion to the Championship this season, it may be some time before Wrexham get another chance to play at Wembley again.

Now, following the heartbreaking shoot-out, Bradley Ihionvien has taken to social media to mock co-owner Reynolds.

Posting to his Instagram story, the Peterborough player videoed himself dancing to NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye”, which the Wrexham owner used in the latest Deadpool movie. He also added an image of the superhero in the corner of his post, clearly trolling Reynolds.

What Darren Ferguson said about beating Wrexham

It was a shocking result, to say the least, given how far apart these two sides have been in the league this season.

Ferguson has spoken out on beating Wrexham and the manager believes his side conceded two sloppy goals prior to mounting their comeback.

He said: “When you have so much of the ball and dominate the game, the transition is always going to be key.

“It’s two really poor goals and th second goal is far too quick, we didn’t react to losing the goal and then we’ve conceded again quickly, but we’ve got ourselves back in it and the second half was pretty much like the first – we dominated the game in terms of the ball but the most important goal was us getting one back and thankfully we did that.”

Next up for Wrexham is a meeting with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
