Sky Sports commentator seriously impressed with Wrexham star this season

Wrexham have enjoyed a strong start to life in League One and sit second in the table with more than a third of the season gone.

Phil Parkinson masterminded back-to-back promotions and is now looking to take Wrexham to the Championship.

Ryan Reynolds wants another promotion this season and Wrexham are in a promising position right now.

34 points from 17 games hits that magic ‘two points per game’ mark often associated with promoted teams.

Away form has been a concern for Wrexham but Parkinson has enjoyed a remarkable home record this season.

Wrexham have a real chance to make it three promotions in a row but there is a long, long way to go in this gruelling League One campaign.

Wrexham star praised by Sky Sports commentator

Parkinson would always value the collective over individual performances and that is certainly on show every week.

Wrexham are a real unit and togetherness has brought as much to Wrexham as the backing from Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

If any individual Wrexham player deserves credit this season, it’s probably Ryan Barnett.

The Wrexham wing back has been sensational this season, bagging six assists and one goal in 16 appearances.

Barnett has been hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by Max Cleworth and many Wrexham fans would share that view.

Sky Sports commentator David Stowell has now praised Barnett whilst speaking on the Essential EFL podcast.

Alongside host Simeon Gholam, Stowell named Barnett in his League One Team of the Season so far after some superb displays.

“Someone who has been really good defensively when he’s been called upon, but he really gets them up the pitch as well,” said Stowell.

“He’s the outlet on the right-hand side, causing problems in terms of setting up goals but also the way that he whizzes the ball – a real issue for opponents,” he added.

Ryan Barnett has big future ahead

Wrexham saw Barnett shine earlier this season and it was no surprise to see him earn interest from elsewhere.

Preston North End and Stoke City were linked with Barnett in October whilst Rangers showed an interest in Barnett too.

Wrexham managed to quieten down all that speculation and secure Barnett’s future by handing him a new contract.

Now tied to Wrexham until 2027 – with the option of another year – Barnett is staying for a while yet.

George Dobson has praised Barnett’s new deal and he looks set for a huge role at Wrexham moving forward given that he is still just 25.

Having adjusted to life in League One so well, Barnett could be the type of player to step up to Championship level with ease and Wrexham will hope to see him shine for years to come.
