Wrexham’s League One campaign continues on Tuesday night as Barnsley make the trip to the STōK Cae Ras.

The second round of the FA Cup is now out of the way – not that Wrexham will have paid too much attention.

Wrexham’s first-round defeat at Harrogate Town means Phil Parkinson and co were not involved in the weekend’s second round action.

Wrexham players will have recharged their batteries, ready to go again with the busy festive period on the horizon.

Barnsley are first up for Wrexham as the Tykes travel to the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday night.

Wrexham have recorded back-to-back home wins against Exeter City and Lincoln City, with the clash against Barnsley offering the prospect of a third.

Barnsley boss on Steve Parkin

This will be a good test for Wrexham with Barnsley currently sitting sixth in the League One table.

The Tykes endured a tough weekend, losing on penalties to Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup despite dominating the game.

Boss Darrell Clarke slammed his Barnsley players after that result but has now turned his attention to Wrexham.

Clarke has praised Phil Parkinson and knows his assistant Steve Parkin very well.

Parkin was in charge of Mansfield Town when Clarke was emerging as a midfielder with the club.

Both Parkin and Clarke hail from Mansfield and Clarke has spoken to BBC Radio Sheffield about the Wrexham assistant boss.

Clarke suggested that being featured on a documentary show like ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ really won’t be up Parkin’s street at all.

Clarke added that Wrexham will always have media interest with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds at the club but just can’t see Parkin being too interested in the spotlight.

“It won’t be for him I don’t think, to be honest with you!” said Clarke.

“But that’s part and parcel of the club, they understand the journey, they have tremendous support from the owners and that’s way at some football clubs.

“When you’ve got owners that they’ve got, that are always in the public eye, there’s always going to be a lot of media interest here and in America,” he added.

Steve Parkin to face Barnsley

We covered how Barnsley ace Davis Keillor-Dunn will be facing Wrexham having left the STōK Cae Ras back in 2020.

There are some ex-Barnsley men on the Wrexham side as well though with Matty James and Elliot Lee both having had spells at Oakwell.

Parkin is even a former Barnsley man himself having taken charge of the club way back in 2001.

Parkin didn’t even last a year in the Barnsley hot seat though, leaving the club in October 2002 having won just 12 of his 44 games in charge.

The Wrexham assistant would no doubt love a win over Barnsley on Tuesday night – though whether he plays a big role in ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ moving forward is another matter.
