Wrexham star Ollie Palmer has revealed that Ryan Reynolds apologized to him over a joke about the striker being shirtless around Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively.

Very few football owners are loved as much as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Since taking over Wrexham in 2020, the Hollywood pair have been lauded for their honest and transparent handling of one of the oldest clubs in the world.

The players themselves are also close with the Rob and Ryan. Paul Mullin lived with Rob McElhenney in the US for a few weeks after getting injured in pre-season, while numerous other Wrexham stars have been spotted partying with the pair.

Reynolds jokes about Wrexham star always being shirtless around his wife

Ollie Palmer was an integral part of the Wrexham team that was promoted from the National League last season.

He’s also become a fan favourite through the Disney+ documentary Welcome to Wrexham, which shows players in a different light away from the pitch.

However, Palmer made headlines recently when Ryan Reynolds made a tongue in cheek remark that the striker loves to walk around shirtless. The Deadpool actor made the joke after Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, had attended a match at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground.

Speaking on the Fearless in Devotion podcast, Reynolds said: “Every time we’ve come as a family we’ve come over we have a walk down to the dressing room.

“Ollie is always the first one to walk out, completely shirtless, to have a conversation with my wife.

“I’m like Ollie put a f****** shirt on and come back out to speak to her like a gentleman.”

‘So sorry’: Ryan Reynolds apologized to Ollie Palmer after viral joke about Blake Lively

Reynolds, who is a comedic actor, is known for his sarcastic and flippant remarks. Most people realised he was joking around with Palmer, however, several mainstream outlets appeared to make it out as though he was digging Palmer out.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Palmer recently revealed Reynolds apologized for the comment after people blew his comments out of proportion.

Palmer said: “Most people do take their shirts off after the game for a shower, I just didn’t put one back on when I saw them both!

“He messaged me after that and said, ‘I’m so sorry’ because Ryan being Ryan, he made a joke of a regular scenario in our lives and it went all the way to The Sun, the New York Post, People Magazine – ‘Ryan Reynolds blasts Ollie Palmer’.

Palmer knew it was a joke and didn’t take offense

However, Palmer sided with Reynolds, admitting he knew it was a joke and that it had been taken out of context.

“It’s like, can people not take a joke? They just spun this narrative on it,” he went on.

“It was a complete joke and that news clip with a certain title went all around the world which was a bit weird, but it’s one of those things now I think.”
