Wrexham picked up another victory on Saturday afternoon, beating Rotherham United 1-0 thanks to Paul Mullin’s early goal.
The international break came to an end and Wrexham fans were off on the road to Yorkshire on Saturday.
Phil Parkinson’s side had only won one of the first five away games this season, losing twice and drawing twice.
An away trip to Rotherham United was certainly a tricky ask but Wrexham produced a superb display.
Paul Mullin scored the only goal of the game, converting Ryan Barnett’s cross inside the first minute.
Rotherham had plenty of possession and attempts on goal but Wrexham stood strong to claim a battling 1-0 win.
Steve Evans on Wrexham defeat
Rotherham were expected to be one of the challengers for promotion under Steve Evans this season.
The Millers turned to Evans at the end of last season and completely overhauled his squad over the summer.
The start to this season has not been ideal though with Rotherham winning just three of the first 12 League One games.
Wrexham inflicted another defeat on Rotherham and boss Evans has cursed the refereeing on display.
Ben Atkinson officiated Saturday’s game and Evans told BBC Radio Sheffield that he felt the referee was ‘simply awful’ on Saturday.
Evans added that Atkinson’s decisions seemed to go ‘all one way’, believing that Wrexham were favoured in 50-50 challenges.
The Scot added that he just thinks Atkinson had a poor game rather than intentionally favouring Wrexham, but he wasn’t happy either way.
“I’m not going to talk about referees because, when you lose, referees can sometimes be the brunt of it, but let’s hope I don’t see him again. I think his performance was simply awful,” said Evans.
“There were a number of factors. If it’s not a penalty on Joe Powell, I don’t know why it wouldn’t be a free kick on the edge of the box. There’s numerous holdings and pullings from set plays that when we’ve briefly looked at them back, because obviously we’ve got the opportunity to be able to look them back quickly, there’s a lot of 50-50 decisions that you think ‘you can’t be giving them all one way’.
“I’m not questioning the referee’s honesty or integrity, I’m just saying he had a bad game,” he added.
Wrexham hoping for double Yorkshire win
Wrexham are on a high right now, especially wing back Barnett, who added another assist after three against Northampton Town.
This is a big week as Wrexham now host another Yorkshire side at the STōK Cae Ras in midweek.
Huddersfield Town are the visitors and Wrexham will be desperate to add another victory.
The Terriers have started the season in much better form than Rotherham, racking up six wins from the first 11 games to sit sixth in League One.
Wrexham then head to face Charlton Athletic but Parkinson would no doubt love a home win in between two tricky away trips.
