Steven Fletcher played a key role in helping Wrexham pick up a vital three points against Burton Albion this weekend, and now, the striker has hinted he may be staying at the club a little longer.
In a surprising turn of events, Steven Fletcher was introduced after just 34 minutes yesterday, with Phil Parkinson hauling Jay Rodriguez off in what appeared to be a tactical change in a goalless first half.
It proved to be a good decision from Parkinson, as Wrexham went to on to storm to a 3-0 win at home to Burton, a result which helped the Red Dragons nudge further ahead in the race for promotion.
Fletcher got the first goal of the game, scoring from the penalty spot after 71 minutes to get the ball rolling, and showed once again that he has a big role to play in Wrexham’s push for a third-successive promotion.

Steven Fletcher hints at new contract
Come the end of the season, Fletcher will be out of contract and could leave the Racecourse Ground on a free transfer.
But, after his impact this season, the 38-year-old is a player many fans want the club to keep hold of, even if they do go up to the Championship as expected.
Whether Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds deem it a good decision to retain the veteran striker remains to be seen, but after his latest social media activity, it would seem Fletcher knows something we don’t regarding his future.
Fletcher took to Instagram to celebrate the win, posting with the caption: “Plus three and a goal… Saturdays at the Racecourse.”
In the replies, the folks at the RobRyanRed podcast posed the question, “New contract?” with a pair of suggestive eyes and a handshake emoji. Fletcher took the time to reply, sending the eyes back, which as we all know, usually means something positive is coming.
It’s obviously to be taken with a pinch of salt, and until anything official is announced, we should prepare for life without Fletcher. But, there’s surely no way the player himself would post something so tantalising without at least some hint that a contract is on the way.

Should Wrexham keep Steven Fletcher for next season?
He may be getting on a bit, but it’s clear that Fletcher still has plenty to offer Wrexham. That’s now eight goals this season across 35 league appearances and 944 minutes of action.
Fletcher’s goals-per-90 ratio of 0.76 is the highest of any player in League One this season, which says it all, really.
In a season where Wrexham’s reliable duo Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer have been misfiring and notably absent, Fletcher has stepped up with crucial goals to fire the Red Dragons to what appears to be a third-successive promotion.
| Statistics | Steven Fletcher 2024/25 (all competitions) |
| Appearances | 36 |
| Minutes played | 1,003 |
| Goals | 8 |
| Shots on target | 42.3% |
| Shots per 90 | 4.68 |
| Shots on target per 90 | 1.98 |
It’s also worth noting that this is a player who, seemingly, is happy enough to start games on the bench. That’s a valuable commodity at any level, and keeping him on board would give Parkinson great strength in depth without any morale issues throughout the Wrexham squad.
Moving up to the Championship won’t be easy for Wrexham, but having someone with the experience and pedigree of Steven Fletcher would certainly help them adjust to life in the second tier.
