Wrexham have been on an incredible journey ever since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds walked into town back in 2021.

The last few years have been a dream for Wrexham fans, but it may be about to get even better.

Wrexham beat Stockport County 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, reclaiming second place in the League One table.

Another promotion is a real possibility, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds potentially needing to pay for another Las Vegas party.

So many players have featured in this Wrexham journey, some of whom have become fan favourites along the way, such as Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer.

Others didn’t quite hit those heights but will certainly treasure being a part of the Wrexham journey.

Former Wrexham midfielder Charlie Trafford retires

Charlie Trafford certainly fits that mould, having briefly joined the Wrexham story back in 2021.

Wrexham took Trafford on trial and handed him a contract in October 2021.

The midfielder had a fascinating backstory; born in Canada, Trafford had emerged in Finland and Poland before joining Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2017.

Trafford spent four years in Scotland as he joined Hamilton Academical before heading to Wrexham.

This will ultimately go down as one of the more forgettable moves of this incredible Wrexham journey as Trafford failed to make a single appearance before leaving in January 2022.

Trafford returned to Canada with Cavalry FC, where he has racked up more than 80 appearances.

Aged just 32, Trafford has now decided to call time on his career and hang up his boots.

The Canadian Premier League branded Trafford a ‘midfield general’ before thanking him for his efforts in Canadian football.

A former Canada international, Trafford is now turning his attention to his farming business Trafford Farms, completely moving away from football.

Charlie Trafford crossed paths with Ryan Reynolds

Trafford has the distinction of being the only Canadian to join Wrexham since Reynolds bought the club alongside Rob McElhenney.

In fact, Transfermarkt note that Trafford is just the second Canadian to ever play for Wrexham, with goalkeeper Don Ferguson the other.

As noted by Curiocity, Trafford crossed paths with Reynolds during his brief time at the STōK Cae Ras.

Reynolds prepared to take a penalty during Wrexham training with Trafford offering a brief message.

“Please don’t let Canada down,” said Trafford just before Reynolds fired the ball wide of goal.

Trafford may not have made an appearance for Wrexham, but he was clearly impressed with what he saw in North Wales.

“[Wrexham] is already a club with so much history,” said Trafford.

“There is a massive fan base, a really nice stadium and it has that infrastructure that could make it a Premier League side,” he added.

Trafford will now hang up his boots and explore a career away from football, but will surely love having been a small part of this Wrexham rise.
