As Wrexham approach the business end of the season in League Two, multiple players are close to facing a suspension.
Wrexham got back to winning ways by dispatching Accrington Stanley 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds scored all four of their goals in the first half as a Paul Mullin hat-trick and a superb finish from Elliot Lee was enough to see off Stanley and convince them to part ways with long-serving manager John Coleman.
After rediscovering their groove in that match, Phil Parkinson’s men must continue that momentum into the final 11 matches of the campaign.
Wrexham have looked off-colour in the past month, winning just three of their last 10 matches in the league.
Yet, they are still positioned third in the table, three points behind leaders Mansfield after they lost against MK Dons last night.
With plenty more twists and turns expected between now and the end of the season, Parkinson needs a fully fit squad at his disposal.
Crucially, he was dealt the positive news that key defender Thomas O’Connor returned to training this week, however, two Wrexham players are walking a suspension tightrope.
James McClean and Elliot Lee are walking a suspension tightrope
James McClean and Lee have both played integral roles in their assault towards promotion.
Lee is Wrexham’s joint top scorer this season with Mullin (15) while McClean has produced the second most assists (8) from left-wing back or more recently, midfield.
Ahead of their clash against Morecambe, though, the pair are walking a suspension tightrope.
McClean has been booked nine times this season while Lee has received eight yellow cards.
There are just two more games until the next cut-off point, with players facing a two-game ban if they reach 10 yellow cards after 37 fixtures.
Parkinson is desperate to avoid this from happening and hopes his influential duo won’t overstep the mark in the next two showdowns before the reset.
“We have got two games to get through so hopefully they can both avoid suspension,” Parkinson told the Leader.
“If they do get suspended, we will deal with it within the squad.”
Wrexham are reaching the business end of the campaign, a position they’ve been familiar with in the last two seasons.
The Reds were defeated in the National League play-off semi-final in 2022 before winning the title in record style in 2023.
Supporters will be hoping for further elation in this campaign as Wrexham aim to make it consecutive promotions.
