We’re taking a walk down memory lane with Wrexham now, as we look back at the Red Dragons’ biggest-ever win, with plenty of goals to remember.
These days, Wrexham are struggling in front of goal, with strikers missing their shooting boots and stalemates costing Phil Parkinson’s side valuable points in the league.
Long gone are the free-scoring days of glory in the National League and League Two, but at least the Red Dragons are still up near the top of the table and pushing for promotion.
But, as we look back at the Wrexham history books, it’s fascinating to know that the Welsh outfit have always managed to entertain, with one particular game proving to be especially eventful way back in 1962.

Wrexham’s 10-1 win over Hartlepool United explained
If you’re looking to reminisce or learn about Wrexham’s record victory, you’ll find you have to go all the way back to March 3rd, 1962.
It was a Fourth Division clash against Hartlepool United, which took place at the Racecourse Ground on a Saturday afternoon, with roughly 6,400 in attendance.
Wrexham won the game by a whopping 10-1 scoreline, and were 5-1 up at half-time alone.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this historic win is the fact that Wrexham legend Wyn Davies bagged a hat-trick within 24 minutes to get the Red Dragons off to a flyer. He scored in the sixth, tenth, and 24th minute.
Ron Barnes then added a fourth, before Hartlepool’s Bobby Folland scored a consolation goal, and Barnes added his second just before the break. He would go on to complete his own hat-trick in the 58th minute.
Barnes and Davies had to share the glory, though, as Roy Ambler also nabbed a hat-trick, scoring in the 55th, 64th, and 70th minute.
Poor old Stan Bennion only managed one goal on the day, but we’re sure he will just be happy to have his name in the record book as a contributor to this amazing achievement.
The lineup for the game was as follows:
| Number | Player | Goals |
| 1 | Kevin Keelan | 0 |
| 2 | Peter Jones | 0 |
| 3 | Aly McGowan | 0 |
| 4 | Tecwyn Jones | 0 |
| 5 | Alan Fox | 0 |
| 6 | Ken Barnes | 0 |
| 7 | Ron Barnes | 3 |
| 8 | Stan Bennion | 1 |
| 9 | Wyn Davies | 3 |
| 10 | Roy Ambler | 3 |
| 11 | Ron Roberts | 0 |
Kevin Keelan, Peter Jones, Aly McGowan, Tecwyn Jones, Alan Fox, Ken Barnes, Ron Barnes, Stan Bennion, Wyn Davies, Roy Ambler, Ron Roberts.
Ken Barnes was also the Wrexham manager at the time, having moved into a player-manager role towards the end of his career.

What is Wrexham’s biggest win under Phil Parkinson?
Interestingly, Phil Parkinson has a four-way tie for his biggest win as Wrexham boss, with a handful of 6-0 wins to his name.
All four games were home wins, coming against Forest Green Rovers and Morecambe in League Two, and Torquay United and Barnet in the National League.
| Date | Opponent | Competition | Score |
| Apr 13th, 2024 | Forest Green Rovers (H) | League Two | 6-0 |
| Nov 25th, 2023 | Morecambe (H) | League Two | 6-0 |
| Sep 24th, 2022 | Torquay United (H) | National League | 6-0 |
| Apr 5th, 2022 | Barnet (H) | National League | 6-0 |
As you may expect, Paul Mullin had a hand in all those wins, scoring seven of the 24 goals across the four games. The likes of Elliot Lee, Ollie Palmer, and former Wrexham man Jordan Davies also contributed goals in the wins.
We’re sure Parkinson would give anything for some more big wins like that, and also for some Mullin magic once more.
