Wrexham have now won three of their last four league games following a Sam Smith winner against Rotherham United.

Smith excelled in the Wrexham player ratings and took his goal brilliantly shortly after half time to find the break through in another tight, tense affair.

Eoghan O’Connell was superb at the back with Thomas O”Connor also impressing once again, whilst Arthur Okonkwo made two fine saves to preserve Wrexham’s three points.

Phil Parkinson’s side move level on points with Wycombe Wanderers in the League One table after their fellow promotion rivals were held to a 1-1 draw at Peterborough United.

Sam Smith delighted with ‘unreal’ moment in Wrexham win

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel after the game, Smith spoke of his delight at scoring his first Wrexham goal at the Racecourse Ground.

Smith stated: “First goal at the Cae Ras so delighted with that but more importantly three points at home to keep the run going and take that on to Tuesday night now.”

The 27-year-old striker then went on to explain the feeling of scoring in front of his home fans for the first time.

Smith explained: “It felt unreal to be honest, especially being at home and it helped to get the three points so it’s a special feeling and a feeling I won’t forget in a long time.”

Smith credits blossoming partnership with Jay Rodriguez

Despite some criticism in recent matches, the Wrexham strike duo of Smith and Jay Rodriguez finally combined for an important goal in the win.

Smith discussed the ever-improving partnership with Rodriguez and how they are trying to help each other in their understanding of the game.

Smith stated: “Every training session and game is important and we have to keep building the relationship and keep asking him questions to see what he likes to do and see what I like to do and try and build relationships all over the pitch.”

The crucial three points also delighted manager Phil Parkinson and he will be hoping his two January signings have now found that formula to more goals and points towards the end of the season.
