Vancouver Whitecaps manager Vanni Sartini is looking forward to the Wrexham fixture on Sunday.

In the last Wrex Coast tour friendly Wrexham are set to take on MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.

Phil Parkinson‘s side have been impressive during their pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 League One campaign.

The North Wales side has faced tough opponents with Premier League opposition AFC Bournemouth and Chelsea both presenting a challenge for the Red Dragons.

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be pleased with the recent performances with a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and a strong outing in a 2-2 draw against Chelsea.

It has been an exciting tour for Wrexham as they interact with their growing US fanbase.

The docuseries ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has had a huge impact on the support over the pond with Ollie Palmer recently revealing the life-changing experience he has had in the US.

The previous fixtures have offered a unique opportunity for the Red Dragons to face Premier League opposition. However, Whitecaps manager Vanni Sartini is excited at the prospect of facing the North Wales side.

Vanni Sartini claims Wrexham game is opportunity to appeal to a different audience

During the tour, Wrexham have had the opportunity to show their quality against top Premier League opposition. The fixtures have given the Hollywood owners a chance to see how the club are progressing and how their support is growing in the US.

Ahead of the Whitecaps fixture vs Wrexham, Whitecaps boss Sartini has suggested that playing Wrexham gives his side a unique opportunity.

Speaking to the official Vancouver Whitecaps YouTube page, he said: “I would love the Whitecaps to do something similar [docuseries].

“The game is very important, so I picked a nice outfit, it was a toss-up between this outfit or dressing up as Deadpool.

“To be honest, I tried to catch up and watched several episodes of the documentary. I think it’s a really nice product.

“Tomorrow we have the chance to appeal to an audience that normally we wouldn’t because of course tomorrow there will be many Whitecaps fans that regularly come, but maybe some people just come because they are fans of the documentary and they hope to see if Ryan Reynolds is coming.

“So we have the big chance to appeal to a group of people that are not following the Whitecaps closely every week.

“So I think we have the responsibility to put on the best show possible.”

Vanni Sartini’s comments show unique Wrexham journey

Wrexham’s rapid rise from the National League to League One has been an exciting journey so far but the off-field growth with Reynolds and McElhenney has given the club a unique appeal.

The docuseries ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has been a huge success in helping the fanbase grow and has had a huge impact in the US.

With an ever-growing fanbase and a global appeal, the Red Dragons have become a good prospect for clubs to face with Whitecaps boss Sartini recognising the pulling power of the North Wales club.

Over 30,000 supporters are expected to be in attendance at the BC Stadium with many excited at the prospect of watching the Red Dragons in action.

Reynolds is expected to be in attendance with the fixture in his home town. This pre-season friendly will give him a chance to see the impact he is having at Wrexham and the unique story that he and McElhenney have provided in North Wales.
