Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has confirmed that he will speak with owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds over further transfers following their opening-day defeat to MK Dons.
The Red Dragons were humbled at home to the relegated League One side as they lost 5-3 on their historic return to the Football League, and questions are already being raised about their promotion credentials.
Wrexham built a strong squad which tore the National League apart, but the step-up in level after promotion has been a tough one to adjust to, particularly without star striker Paul Mullin.
Parkinson has now confirmed that talks will take place this week over transfers as he wants to add more quality to his squad.
“I had a good chat with them. The thing is with Rob and Ryan, they are the first people to come in and sit down and have a beer with me after the game. When we win, we have enjoyed the good times but as a manager, player and owner of a football club, it is taking the knocks and today is a knock for us,” he stated after the defeat.
“It is not a season-defining defeat but I had a great chat with them afterwards and we will have a good sit down this week. We are looking to add a couple more players before the window closes and if we do that, I am confident we have got a very strong squad. If we don’t, we have still got quality more than we showed in terms of the ability on the football pitch.”
Wrexham’s inactivity comes back to bite
Wrexham have been surprisingly quiet in the transfer window, bringing in Will Boyle and James McClean as the only summer signings, and this came back to bite them against MK Dons, as defensive vulnerabilities and the lack of Mullin were exposed.

The club went unbeaten at home for the whole of last season, but have lost their very first game this season, and signings may be necessary as the reality of the difficulty of League Two starts to hit home.
McClean did not feature in the defeat, and he will add more proven quality in attack, but it now appears that Wrexham will enter the market again to strengthen the squad.
