Wrexham are building momentum in their quest for the Championship after securing seven points from their last three league games.

The run of results leaves Phil Parkinson’s side just two points off of the League One automatic promotion places and fans are becoming to dream of a third successive rise.

Wrexham will be hoping for a favour from a former icon as Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough host promotion-chasing Wycombe, whilst the Red Dragons entertain Rotherham at the Racecourse Ground.

Steven Fletcher has praised Wrexham’s January signings of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez for what they have brought to the club but one club expert believes that the Wrexham owners need a shift in their future transfer plans.

Wrexham expert gives verdict on Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s transfer strategy

Speaking on the latest edition of the Rob.Ryan.Red. podcast, Wrexham expert and journalist Rich Fay has been discussing the transfer strategy of the club under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Fay stated: “Why aren’t Wrexham signing any young players? Why is it so short term? And if you get to the Championship, won’t you just target even more short term options just to stay alive in the Championship and not get relegated?”

The journalist then went on to question whether there has been enough of a blend between youth and experience in the recent recruitment and cited only Smith as a ‘younger’ signing.

Fay explained: ““And It did make me sort of think, when is there going to be that time maybe for us to develop those players, to bring in that younger profile of player?

“Because if you look at someone like Sam Smith, you know he is a very young player by Wrexham’s standards but he is still 26 and he will be 27 this week.”

Analysing the age of Wrexham’s signings this season

Upon promotion to League One this season, it was clear that the Wrexham squad needed to be upgraded in order to compete at the higher level.

Wrexham fans have been warned about the club’s rise and how it is imperative that the Red Dragons do not get ahead of themselves too quickly, transfer recruitment plays a huge part in that process of building for the future.
