Wrexham know that their League One clash against Mansfield is a must-win game in terms of their promotion push.

Wrexham have already beat Mansfield this season both on and off the pitch with a 1-0 win the Racecourse Ground and securing the signing of Lewis Brunt ahead of Nigel Clough’s side.

Phil Parkinson’s side could head into the game eight points behind Wycombe in the race for League One promotion should they manage to beat Wigan.

Wrexham will need to end a 41-year record by beating The Stags away from home for the first time since 1984 and the Red Dragons are also to match another 20-year record with victory at Field Mill.

Wrexham aiming to match 20-year record

Wrexham broke an unwanted record under Parkinson by losing successive matches at home following their 2-1 defeat to Leyton Orient.

The Red Dragons home form is usually the foundation to their success however, in recent weeks it has reversed with away victories at Crawley and Northampton picking up vital points.

Should Wrexham win at Field Mill in the upcoming clash with Mansfield, it will be the first time the club has won three successive away matches in the Football League since August 2003.

It would be a huge three point for the North Wales side, given that they could find themselves down in fifth position before the game, should results go against them with their promotion rivals playing before.

James McClean injury doubt throws Phil Parkinson selection into doubt

Parkinson revealed ahead of the game that captain James McClean is struggling with a hip injury and has been sent for a scan to assess the extent of the damage.

It throws his participation in the match into huge doubt, with questions now surrounding what Parkinson does to replace the experienced left wing-back.

The feeling around the club is that Ryan Longman will replace McClean despite not having made a league start since joining the club in January.

Longman has impressed from the bench however, having provided three assists in his six appearances for the club so far, which included a wonderful cross for Elliot Lee to head home a last minute winner against Crawley.
