Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has take charge of over one thousand games in his career and guided the club to successive promotions.
Fans were furious with Parkinson’s style of play in the latest defeat at the Racecourse Ground against Leyton Orient but know how far the club have come under his guidance.
Wrexham are still very much in the hunt for League One promotion and after taking charge with the club lodged in mid table of the National League, the whole town have a lot to thank Parkinson for.
He arrived at the Red Dragons in the summer of 2021, the first of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s tenure and the boss has opened up on those talks that brought him to North Wales.

Phil Parkinson reveals what convinced him to join Wrexham in 2021
Speaking to Sky Sports Football’s YouTube channel, Parkinson has opened up on the talks that brought him to the club back in 2021.
Parkinson stated: “At the time like you say I had just left Sunderland and I’d never managed in the National League before and I didn’t know a lot about the league. You know, people say football is football but it’s important to understand the level you’re going in to.”
The 57-year-old then revealed the moment that he became convinced that Wrexham was the right career move for him at the time.
Parkinson explained: “When I spoke to the owners, went through the plans in more detail going forward, you know I couldn’t resist coming on board and to be part of something.
“15 years out of the EFL and the hurt and the pain of the supporters in the whole area, I had to take responsibility to be the man to bring the club back into the league.”
Parkinson facing questions over recent team selection
Part of being a football manager is facing criticism and having several opinions thrown at you regarding how you can improve the team you are overseeing.
Parkinson is experiencing that in this present time, Rich Fay has questioned the selection of Mark Howard and there is continued debate over the balance of the midfield.
George Dobson and Matty James are struggling to play together as their styles are very similar and are restricting the creativity within the side.
Parkinson needs to find a formula in order to provide quality service to his strikers Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez, with all of his experience and knowledge, fans can be assured that the gaffer will find a way.
