Wrexham are just two games away from a trip to Wembley as they welcome Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Trophy quarter final.

Wrexham will play Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy semi final if they can find a way past Bolton at the Racecourse Ground.

Four years on from their takeover, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have enjoyed some great moments as Wrexham owners and will be keen for the club to have yet another day out at Wembley.

Phil Parkinson has a strong squad to choose from and Ollie Palmer may partner Modou Faal in the Wrexham predicted XI. However, opponents Bolton are experiencing a fitness crisis and a key man has added to their problems.

EFL Trophy top scorer Aaron Collins set to miss Wrexham clash

According to the BBC, Bolton are set to be without their top scorer Aaron Collins, who is also the leading scorer in the EFL Trophy, for their visit to Wrexham.

Collins has scored 15 goals in all competitions for Bolton this season, including six in the EFL Trophy and is a deadly finisher in front of goal.

Bolton’s injury crisis is in stark contrast to Wrexham, where manager Parkinson has the nice problem of choosing which players he rotates and which players he needs to get minutes under their belts.

It should give the Red Dragons the advantage in the tie of being the fresher of the two teams but Parkinson will know his team will still need to be at their best to progress to the semi final.

Wrexham last won the EFL Trophy 20 years ago

Wrexham last won the EFL Trophy back in 2005 under manager Denis Smith, the competition was then called the LDV Vans Trophy.

The final was played in Wales at the Millennium Stadium and remarkably, the game went to extra time after a goalless 90 minutes before Wrexham won 2-0 in extra time to claim the trophy.

Whilst promotion from League One remains the club’s main priority this season, supporters will be desperate for their cup run to continue to have another shot at a trophy.

If Parkinson can find the right blend in his team selection of fresh legs, experience and quality, his side are well capable of booking their spot in the semi final against Peterborough.
