Wrexham signed not one but two goalkeepers over the summer, paving the way for Luke McNicholas to depart on loan.
Wrexham had plenty of business to do over the summer as Phil Parkinson looked to build for a League One campaign.
The first signing of the window was a huge one as Wrexham pounced to sign Arthur Okonkwo from Arsenal.
Okonkwo impressed on loan at Wrexham last season and he decided to commit his future to the club on a permanent basis.
Phil Parkinson has admitted his delight with that deal as Wrexham landed one of the top young goalkeepers in English football.
Wrexham also brought in new competition for Okonkwo by signing Callum Burton on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle.
Luke McNicholas run at Rochdale
Burton has been a number two for years now and he has offered experienced cover behind Okonkwo this season.
Okonkwo and Burton signing alongside Mark Howard penning a new deal left Irish stopper Luke McNicholas well down the pecking order.
Signed from Sligo Rovers last season, McNicholas failed to make a single league appearance as Wrexham won another promotion.
The 24-year-old wants to play regularly though and Wrexham allowed him to join Rochdale after Burton arrived.
McNicholas has been playing first-team football for the National League side and has been enjoying a fine run.
A statistic has emerged from Dale Programme on X, who states that McNicholas became just the fourth goalkeeper to keep five clean sheets in a row for Rochdale last weekend.
McNicholas is the first since 2014 to hit that milestone having kept three consecutive clean sheets against Braintree Town, Hartlepool United, Woking, Yeovil Town and Forest Green Rovers.
The Wrexham stopper has been sharing duties with David Robson between the sticks but has been taking his chance when called upon.
McNicholas facing spell on the sidelines
Sadly for McNicholas, he now faces a spell out of the team.
Injury kept McNicholas out of Rochdale’s 2-2 draw at Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.
Rochdale certainly seem more solid with McNicholas between the sticks but he is now out of action.
Boss Jimmy McNulty has told Rochdale’s official website that McNicholas will be out for six weeks.
McNulty praised McNicholas as ‘outstanding’ and praised his ‘brilliant’ clean sheet record since joining the club.
McNicholas may not feature again until the end of November or even start of December but will be looking to get back on his run of clean sheets when he returns to action.
