Wrexham are no stranger to showing ambition, with Ryan Reynolds dropping one big promise to a ‘world-class’ Liverpool star.
From the moment Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney walked through the doors at Wrexham, they outlined one clear ambition of taking the Welsh side to the Premier League.
It was a dream that was likely laughed out of the room but over three years after completing their takeover, the Reds are just two promotions away from the big time.
Admittedly, they have reached a point where progress will naturally slow down but the Hollywood owners still show huge ambition, having brought in five new players.
Phil Parkinson can be pleased with the business done so far, while Reynolds always thinks of the extreme.
Ryan Reynolds makes hilarious transfer offer to Liverpool star
It’s been a busy summer for Reynolds, who has gatecrashed a Spanish broadcast at Euro 2024 with Rob McElhenney while entering talks with the ECB over buying Welsh Fire.
The Hollywood superstar has also been promoting his new movie Deadpool & Wolverine alongside co-star Hugh Jackman and the pair were interviewed by the Premier League.
The duo were asked about Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Jackman offered plenty of praise in his response, lauding his professionalism and longevity.
Reynolds, meanwhile, used the question as an opportunity to present an offer to the “world-class” Egyptian, as he urged him to join Wrexham.
“Ryan Reynolds, co-chairman of Wrexham AFC,” he said. “Mo, you would be warmly embraced by Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground in North Wales.”
Hugh Jackman responded: “You wouldn’t get a full ninety minutes but probably like 20 minutes every game.”
Reynolds: “All we need is five. Think about it.”
The Hollywood co-owner is an expert at thrusting his side further into the limelight by saying something that will catch attention.
By asking Salah to join Wrexham as a joke, he’s catching the eyes of the right people and that is exactly what Reynolds has done throughout his tenure.
The ambitious offers Wrexham have made this summer
This isn’t the only time Wrexham have made an ambitious offer to a player who is well without their realm.
Earlier this summer, McElhenney refused to rule out the possibility of signing Welsh icon Gareth Bale, who announced his retirement in September and has rejected previous advances from the American.
Executive director Humphrey Ker has also got in on the act by claiming he wouldn’t rule out a move for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, despite him just winning promotion back to the Premier League.
Vardy shut down those rumours instantly by signing a new deal at the King Power, while Ker also named Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams as his ‘dream’ Wrexham signing.
Wrexham are experts at making people take notice of their every move and the most important will be how they transition into League One, kicking off their campaign at home to Wycombe Wanderers on August 10th.
