Wrexham are set for their first-ever stint in League One in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

The Red Dragons have become one of the most talked about clubs in England over the last several years.

Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took over Wrexham in February 2021.

American owners do not always understand the English game and what football means to the supporters but Reynolds and McElhenney have been excellent in their three-year stint.

The Welsh outfit were in the National League when the duo took the reigns but quickly earned their first-ever promotion to League Two in 2022/23.

This was followed by just one season in England’s fourth tier, with Wrexham finishing second to earn a place in League One for the upcoming campaign.

Manager Phil Parkinson has been active in the transfer market this summer as he builds his squad for the 2024/25 League One season.

James Jones outlines Wrexham 2024/25 goals

Wrexham will face a much together challenge than the one they did in the previous campaign.

Parkinson’s side lost just 10 games last season but were still able to finish second in the division.

Should that loss tally increase in 2024/25, as it is expected to, Wrexham may struggle to secure a place in the Championship for 2025/26.

Tom O’Connor shared his League One prediction for Wrexham last month as they aim to win three promotions on the spin.

Now, fellow Wrexham star James Jones has shared an insight into Wrexham’s goals for the new season, as per The Leader.

He said: “Not many teams can say they have won back-to-back promotions. I don’t know if anyone has done it three times but that has got to be the aim.

“To the world it is probably going to be a case of just consolidate, find our feet and see how we get on but everyone in-house will be thinking ‘let’s see if we can do it’.

“There’s no point playing if you are not trying to get promoted.

“We have got that mentality in the group. We have got a group that are used to winning and enjoy winning so who knows where that momentum can take you.”

Will Wrexham win promotion in 2024/25

It is tough to predict how Wrexham might fare in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

The Welsh outfit have shocked the world with their rapid rise up the English footballing pyramid over the last few years.

However, it is hard to see the club being able to secure a third-successive promotion this time around.

Wrexham did not go up as champions last term and the step up in quality in League One is quite large.

The Welsh side have made some smart signings this summer, which should help them meet the demands of the third division.

But a promotion push may be out of the question when you look at some of the teams they are competing against.

The recently relegated trio of Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town, and Rotherham United are all expected to be among the favourites to earn a swift return to the Championship.

High-flyers from last season such as Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley will also prove tough opposition from Wrexham.
