Wrexham star, George Evans has revealed what was discussed in the dressing room before the Reds went on to beat Shrewsbury 1-0.
This weekend saw Wrexham travel the short journey to face Shrewsbury in an FA Cup third-round local derby tie.
Coming into the game, Phil Parkinson went strong and named what could be considered as his strongest available XI.
It is safe to say that it paid off as the Reds came away with a 1-0 win on the day. Thanks to a deflected Tom O’Connor goal, they got their name in the hat for the draw. This came despite being second-best for large portions of the game.
There was plenty of fire behind the game following Tom Flanagan’s pre-match comments which didn’t go down well. This saw stars like Elliot Lee desperate to hit back at Town.
As well as this, George Evans has opened up about what Parkinson said going into the game in the dressing room.

The last time that Wrexham met Shrewsbury, it was a dark day for everyone associated with the club that hasn’t been forgotten.
Things have changed since with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney coming in and now things are completely positive. This sees the Reds fighting at the top end of League Two, with back-to-back promotions not looking impossible.
In an interview with The Athletic, Evans has been talking about the pre-match conversation coming into this local derby.
On that, he said: “We spoke a lot about what happened that day (in 2008). And how it ended in Wrexham getting relegated. It obviously took a while for the club to come back up. So for a lot of fans, it was important we got the win today.
“You could see with the atmosphere how big this game was. That’s why we are delighted to get the win. The manager’s words definitely gave us extra motivation.”
The players put everything into the game and it was clear to see that the Wrexham players were up for the game. It must be said that they were dominated at times and the home side probably should have taken the lead. The Reds didn’t let that bother them.
This was all tied with Flanagan’s comment lit a fire in the bellies of the side coming into the game.
Coming away from a local derby with a win and now a tie against Blackburn Rovers is very exciting for everyone associated with the club.
