Wrexham’s new kit launch was thrown into disarray after resellers were selling the shirts for ridiculous fees on eBay.
Wrexham‘s popularity has absolutely skyrocketed in recent months thanks to the backing of Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Reynolds and McElhenney’s investment in the North Wales club has seen the Red Dragons become the subject of a global documentary series, Welcome to Wrexham.
This investment also saw Wrexham clinch the National League title and ensure their promotion to the Football League next season.
All of this has contributed to millions of new eyes on Wrexham, which has caused some issues with their new kit launch.
Wrexham kit launch in disarray with shirts being resold for staggering amounts
On June 8, Wrexham unveiled their new home kit for the upcoming 2023/2024 season.
However, the eagerly-awaited launch has been thrown into disarray by selling out upon release, only for certain people to be reselling the items at exorbitant prices.
The new home kit is also being re-sold for in excess of £170 on eBay, leaving regular fans empty-handed and facing the prospect of vastly overpaying for the new shirt.
The RobRyanRed podcast tweeted screenshots of the shirts for sale on eBay for £179.99, while sharing their annoyance.
“Well, that didn’t take long,” they wrote. “Real fans missing out while scalpers make a quick profit.
“Until the club can meet the demand and have a shopping experience that actually works this will only continue to happen.
“How is it still this bad?”
Club apologises amid ‘frustrations of supporters’
The club has since apologised to fans. “We understand the frustrations of supporters who have been trying to buy shirts this morning,” they said.
“The shop website’s servers were set to cope with an increased capacity of orders compared to last season, but demand outstripped this further.
“As we continue to grow, and in order to meet this demand, we will continue to learn and improve our systems.
“Please rest assured, orders are going through, albeit with some delays, and shirts are in stock.”

It comes after Wrexham’s new shirt sponsorship with United Airlines was announced. The United Airlines name and logo will be emblazoned across the front of the club’s home, away and third shirts on both the men’s and women’s teams, replacing TikTok.
Ryan and Rob revealed that United Airlines will be the official front-of-shirt sponsor for Wrexham in a video uploaded to social media.
