Ryan Reynolds may be delighted to see Wrexham earn yet another promotion, but this latest success does mean he will have to face up to his old enemy, Hugh Jackman.
Wrexham secured promotion on Saturday by beating Charlton Athletic 3-0 at the Racecourse Ground, after Wycombe Wanderers had faltered against Leyton Orient in the early kick-off.
The result sees Phil Parkinson clinch an historic third-successive promotion, and the Red Dragons are now well on course to achieving Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ultimate dream of taking the club to the Premier League.
But, for Reynolds in particular, he will now be having sleepless nights knowing that his old friend (and sworn enemy in the movie world), Hugh Jackman, will be waiting for him in the Championship.
Hugh Jackman’s Norwich City will clash with the Red Dragons
Jackman and Reynolds go way back, with the pair donning superhero costumes alongside one another for many, many years as Wolverine and Deadpool, respectively.
They shared the screen last summer for the aptly-titled blockbuster hit, Deadpool vs Wolverine, and though they may poke fun at one another fairly often, they are great friends.
That will make things incredibly awkward next season, then, when Wrexham take on Norwich City in the Championship, as Jackman is a massive fan of the Canaries.
Speaking to the BBC last year, Jackman explained how his affinity for Norwich came about, saying: “My mum was born and bred and lives in Norwich. I grew up in Australia, my parents emigrated.”
Jackman’s father was from London, which made it tricky for Hugh to pick a team to support given the sheer volume of clubs in the capital. Instead, he turned to his mother’s roots and took on Norwich.
Despite the club’s relative lack of success over the years, Jackman recalled saying, “It’s OK. I’m here for the long run.”
While we await the fixture list for the 2025/26 Championship campaign, we’re sure both Reynolds and Jackman will be keeping a close eye on the Wrexham vs Norwich dates as a priority.

Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham have a lot to prove in Championship
Wrexham have done an incredible job to rise to the second tier so quickly, but life in the Championship will be a shock to the system, that’s for sure.
The competition is fierce and wildly unpredictable, which might suit Wrexham at times, but they will surely find themselves punished if they’re not careful.
A lot of that will come down to how the Red Dragons recruit this summer. We know Wrexham want to be ambitious in the transfer market and try to compete with the big boys financially, but it’s all about making the right decisions, not just the most expensive ones.
Rival fans can’t wait to see Wrexham fail, but Reynolds and co. will love nothing more than to prove them all wrong next season.
