Wrexham may be enjoying their promotion party, but their rivals throughout the EFL are feeling pretty bitter about the success.
The rollercoaster ride that has been this League One season has now reached a triumphant conclusion for Wrexham, with a 3-0 win at home to Charlton Athletic securing second place and automatic promotion for Phil Parkinson’s men.
For weeks, Wrexham and Wycombe have traded placed in that automatic promotion spot behind champions Birmingham City.
But, after yet another slip up from the Chairboys with a 1-0 defeat to Leyton Orient in the early kick-off, the Red Dragons knew what they needed to do in the evening kick-off against Nathan Jones’ side.
Wrexham got revenge for Jones’ cheeky jab at the club this week, and will now be celebrating for weeks to come and looking ahead to life in the Championship.

What rivals are saying about Wrexham’s success
Naturally, those associated with the club are over the moon, with Rob McElhenney buzzing about the future, and Ryan Reynolds heralding Parkinson’s success.
But, outside of the club, there are a fair few bitter sentiments being thrown around on social media, with many bemoaning Wrexham’s latest success as simply being the product of splashing the cash.
One Charlton fan wrote, “No one outside the club cares,” while a Birmingham City fan, rather ironically, said: “What a fairytale story. All that money spent was expected really. Not an achievement at all. In for a shock next season when they play teams that can compete with their spending.”
Others really went in on Wrexham, with one supporter writing: “Congrats to all the genuine Wrexham fans who’ve been with the club through the hard times, enjoy the rise. Less can be said to the nauseating band wagon jumpers.”
Some were frustrated at their own team’s failures, with a Bolton fan saying, “Depressing how they’ve gotten out of league one in their first attempt. Why can’t we just do this?”
Meanwhile, plenty of rival supporters were quick to fire a warning to Wrexham ahead of their 2025/26 campaign in the Championship.
One said, “How your football has succeeded says more about rest of the league. You need a ridiculous rebuild, you probably have about two players good enough,” while another added, “Gonna be W(r)exham next season.”
Others wrote, “A massive step up next season… will need plenty of big signings to play at that level,” and “Easy six points for a lot of teams next season.”

Can Wrexham survive in the Championship next season?
We understand Wrexham have big and expensive plans for the Championship, with a £40m war chest set to be handed to Parkinson.
The Wrexham manager has done an incredible job guiding the club to three successive promotions, and it has been particularly impressive to see the Red Dragons step things up this season in the third tier.
However, the challenge of the Championship will be a massive one for Wrexham, and recruitment will need to be spot on this summer.
Parkinson’s Championship record leaves much to be desired, but it does feel like he, too, has improved greatly over the course of his time at Wrexham, and there’s every chance he can raise his game once more in the second tier.
Survival will be the key aim next season, regardless of money spent, but if they can establish themselves in the Championship, Wrexham can certainly push on and look at promotion once again in the years to come.
