Here are three players Wrexham could target from top-flight clubs.
Nathan Fraser (Wolves)
Nathan Fraser broke into the first-team at Wolves this season.
The 19-year-old striker capped his first appearance for the club by scoring and assisting from the bench against Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.
He followed that up with a goal against Brentford in the third round of the FA Cup.
Fraser has since made six Premier League appearances and shown much promise, but his involvement in the top flight is largely down to Gary O’Neil suffering from an injury crisis.
Having struggled to adapt to the physical challenge of the top flight, the talented youngster could benefit from a loan spell in League One and signing for Wrexham could see him form a deadly partnership with Paul Mullin.
Jadel Katongo (Manchester City)
A product of Manchester City’s academy, a move for versatile youngster Jadel Katongo would be ambitious but one the Reds are capable of pulling off.
Katongo is currently enjoying a productive loan spell at League One side Peterborough United, who are challenging towards the top end of the division.
The 19-year-old has played 40 games across all competitions but showcased his versatility, slotting in at centre-back, defensive midfield and right-back.
Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has tipped the youngster to become “world-class” and could attract interest from several Championship clubs on loan.
That wouldn’t stop the Reds from pursuing a loan move for Katongo, whose ability to play across defence and in midfield would be a handy weapon for Parkinson to have.
Calvin Ramsay (Liverpool)
Liverpool youngster Calvin Ramsay has endured a difficult 18 months with injuries, restricting him to just two first-team games at Anfield last season and two more on loan at Preston in the first half of the season.
Sadly, things haven’t improved for the attacking right-back since making a January switch to Bolton Wanderers, appearing just 68 minutes for Ian Evatt’s side.
Still only 20, Ramsay has time on his hands to turn the tide and joining a club like Wrexham – who play a system with wing-backs – could be the perfect move for him.
Ramsay thrives when driving forward and putting crosses into the box, with left-back Andy Robertson claiming he’s “brilliant” talent and better than he was at his age.
If the young defender can get over his injury troubles, he’s an option Parkinson should certainly explore in the market.
