Wrexham signed off for the season in style with a convincing 2-0 win at Lincoln.

Phil Parkinson’s side were under pressure during the first half with Arthur Okonkwo forced into action on a number of occasions.

However, Ryan Longman sprung the Red Dragons into action at the start of the second half with a delicious cross for Elliot Lee to head home.

Longman himself then scored his first goal for the club since his January move from Hull with a fine strike into the far corner to seal three points for the final match of the campaign.

Matty James match statistics v Lincoln

Wrexham were slow off the mark during the first half and had to remain solid during some dangerous Lincoln attacks.

However, Matty James once again showed his experience and leadership in front of the back four and helped guide his team through the tricky spell before stamping their authority on the game.

His knack of knowing where the danger is and then showing composure to deal with the threat has been invaluable to the Red Dragons this season.

Max Cleworth and Eoghan O’Connell will rightly get the plaudits for Wrexham’s heroic defensive effort this season but James has also been a big part of that effort.

Matty James has justified Wrexham signing him

There were a few eyebrows raised when James walked through the door at the Racecourse Ground on a free transfer but he has been outstanding, especially in the promotion run in.

Parkinson has raved about James on a number of occasions this season and he will continue to be a key figure at the club next season.

At 33, James may not be able to play week in week out in the Championship but he will provide Parkinson an option of someone who can control a midfield in the second tier.

The Red Dragons will have learning curves next season without doubt but with James in their ranks, they have a player that will know how to overcome those challenges.
