Wrexham survived an early scare against Port Vale to produce an excellent second half display and advance to the quarter final of the EFL Trophy.

Ryan Longman sent an exciting message to Wrexham fans following the win claiming that his two assists was ‘just a glimpse’ of what he is capable of producing.

Phil Parkinson praised academy graduate Harry Ashfield after the 18-year-old fired his first professional goal for the club during the 4-1 win over Port Vale.

Wrexham showed great character after falling behind inside the opening minute of the game and one defender who has been on the fringes this season won’t want to see the incident again.

Sebastian Revan at fault for Port Vale goal amid disappointing performance

Port Vale opened the scoring through Ronan Curtis but was given a huge helping hand by defender Sebastian Revan as he trod on the ball inside the area to allow Curtis to pounce.

Revan endured a difficult game defensively against Port Vale but did produce an excellent cross for Modou Faal to score Wrexham’s fourth on the night.

The young left back scored 5/10 in the Wrexham player ratings and would have been hoping to make more of a mark on a rare start in front of Phil Parkinson, he has made just two appearances in the last ten games for the Red Dragons.

Revan survived going out on loan during the January window but perhaps his latest display shows that more experience is required elsewhere before he can break into Wrexham’s plans.

Parkinson could need to rotate James McClean in the remainder of the season

Captain James McClean has made 31 appearances in all competitions so far this season at the age of 35 and may be in need of some rotation between now and the end of the campaign.

McClean has been excellent in the left-wing back role, contributing three goals and three assists but will need managing through the hectic end of season schedule.

Revan has proven that he isn’t quite at the level yet to replace McClean, Jacob Mendy should have started the EFL Trophy clash against Port Vale in order to gain some vital match practice should he be required to step in.

It may well be that Parkinson has ear-marked new signing Longman to fill in for McClean due to Longman’s versatility and after his recent performances, fans will be excited by that prospect.
