Wrexham ace may have started his last league game under Phil Parkinson, January exit was a must

Wrexham sanctioned several exits in the 2025 January transfer window and one player probably should have joined that list.

The Red Dragons waited over three weeks before confirming an arrival at the Racecourse Ground last month, but exits happened much quicker.

After a loan spell with Halifax Town in the first half of 2024/25, Billy Waters joined Oldham Athletic on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile, Jake Bickerstaff returned to Altrincham on loan in the National League for the remainder of 2024/25.

Outgoings slowed down somewhat in the following weeks before James Jones left Wrexham to join Burton Albion.

Then, on deadline day, Anthony Forde was allowed to leave by mutual consent amid his struggles to break into the League One squad.

All four players will hopefully fare better after their exits but another star who remained at the club probably should have left for the good of his career.

Sebastian Revan should have left Wrexham on loan

Sebastian Revan made the step down to League One over the summer, arriving from Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

Very early in the campaign, Revan impressed for Wrexham in 0-0 draw against Bolton Wanderers in League One.

That performance was a long time ago, however, and the 21-year-old has had a tough time finding consistent form since his summer arrival.

He has made 14 appearances in the third tier but only only four of those have come as a starter.

Revan has been left on the bench for Wrexham’s last three matches and it’s now very hard to see when he will get another start in the league and maybe even the cup.

Ryan Longman arrived at the Racecourse last month and has slotted seamlessly into the squad, proving himself as an excellent back to Ryan Barnett.

Longman came off the bench against Crawley Town and assisted the winning goal and is surely now Phil Parkinson’s second-choice right-wing-back.

That begs the question, where does Revan fit in going forward and why didn’t the club or the player look for a loan move in January so he can earn some much-needed minutes to continue his development?

What Phil Parkinson has said about Sebastian Revan

Speaking in November after the EFL Trophy meeting with Port Vale, Parkinson praised Revan.

He said: “I thought Seb came on and got back to how Seb can play. He was great, he looked a real threat.”

But while the Wrexham boss clearly has faith in the defender’s ability, chances to prove himself are going to be few and far between in the rest of 2024/25.

He might start on Tuesday against Port Vale but any hope he has of starting in League One for the rest of the term now rest on Barnett and or Longman being suspended or injured.
