Wrexham have come into money in the last few years, and lots of it, as we saw with the club’s spending over the summer.

Ten years ago, Wrexham were working with scraps. Fast forward to today and the club almost has too much money to spend, with the Dragons setting new records over the summer.

Wrexham spent £33million on new signings in the summer transfer window and it’s the most amount ever spent by a team in the Championship, that hasn’t just been relegated from the Premier League.

Under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, Wrexham have climbed to new heights never even dreamed of by supporters. But throughout the club’s history, those supporters have remained the one constant.

No matter what league or in what time period, Wrexham have always had a large fanbase, who’ve always packed out their historic Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham competed in Division Four during the 1969/70 season. They played alongside some of the Football League’s current regulars like Lincoln City, Bradford City, Exeter City and more. But Wrexham actually boasted the league’s second-highest average attendance that season.

Chesterfield had the highest average attendance, coming in at 10,037. Wrexham’s was slightly less at 9,583, but it still dwarfed many of their Division Four rivals at the time.

This season, albeit with one less stand, Wrexham have an average attendance of 10,635, and it just goes to show that all this newfound wealth and fame doesn’t change the fact that Wrexham have always been a popular and well-supported team.

Wrexham’s new stadium capacity will bring the club up to speed

After three-straight promotions, Wrexham now find themselves playing catch up with a lot of teams in the Championship, and in a lot of ways too.

Not only in terms of the playing staff, but Wrexham are placing more focus on their youth academy too, as well as revamping the stadium.

Wrexham’s new kop stand is expected to be finished next summer and it’ll bump their capacity up to a more suitable Championship level.

Wrexham’s new stadium capacity is estimated at around 18,000 which is even bigger than two current Premier League stadiums in Brentford and Bournemouth’s grounds.

And expect the loyal Dragons fans to fill the new stand right up when it does eventually open.
